For every NFL scout that believes Tim Tebow could become a successful NFL quarterback, there are 25 others that believe a position change would do his career best. Fullback or tight end are positions most think he should transition to. But for 2012 at least, he’s set to be the #2 QB behind Mark Sanchez with the New York Jets. But how long will he be content to hold a clipboard? Tim Tebow is a football player, and at some point his desire to play may overwhelm his desire to play QB.
The Jets intend to utilize his unique talents in the red zone with some Wildcat type plays and they’ve already expressed that they plan on him being the personal protector on the punt team. There’s also the potential to line him up in the backfield for some gimmicky type stuff. N.Y. has asked him to bulk up to about 250, and as of his last weigh in, he’s sitting at a solid 249. He definitely has the frame to take a pounding in the NFL.
”I feel that I’m just training hard,” said Tebow, voted by teammates as the second-strongest offensive player behind only tight end Dustin Keller. ”I’m trying to be in shape, be strong enough to do anything, but also fast enough to run around a little bit as well.”
Mark Sanchez hasn’t has the smoothest of careers in the Big Apple, so there is a possibility that, if he falters, it’ll be Tebow to the rescue. But until that time comes, expect to see Tebow lining up in unique ways to help the Jets offense.
