Chicago woman in disbelief after husband makes fantasy football pact with pals. Then came the caterpillar costume: ‘Never a dull moment’

He said he needed to get in the "zone."

Fantasy football draws millions of participants each season, turning NFL Sundays into a weekly competition among friends, family members, and coworkers. For one Chicago woman, though, her husband’s fantasy league came with a punishment that took the competition well beyond the virtual football field.

TikTok creator Ellaleski1 (@ecouse12) shared a video describing what happened after her husband lost at fantasy football, presumably in the 2025 season. In advance of the 2026 season, she said she woke up to find her husband preparing for a fantasy football punishment tied to Eric Carle’s classic children’s book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

The punishment required him to eat the foods featured in the story while dressed up as the Hungry Caterpillar. The reason for the punishment, according to her husband, was simple: “This is because I suck at fantasy football,” a sign posted behind him as he eats says, according to the post.

He got in the “zone” with a caterpillar mask.

The video then turned toward the costume portion of the punishment. The husband wore a caterpillar mask, apparently completing the visual component of the fantasy football penalty.

“I gotta get in the zone,” he said in the video. “Cause I’m Hungry. Hungry Caterpillar.”

Ellaleski1 then documented her husband’s attempt to work through the foods. He started with an apple, echoing the caterpillar’s first meal in Carle’s story, about a caterpillar that eats its way through the days of the week before eventually forming a cocoon and becoming a butterfly.

The TikTok showed the challenge continuing through several foods laid out on the couple’s table. The husband commented on the condition of some of the fruit, questioned whether he could finish everything, and reacted to the amount of food he still had to consume.

The challenge eventually moved beyond fruit. The post shows him reacting to cheese, sausage, and other items, as the couple continues to document the experience.

The creator’s reaction captured the unusual nature of the punishment. She described the experience with the line, “never a dull moment.” The video offers a glimpse into one way fantasy football leagues can turn a bad season or loss into a running joke among friends.

One viewer noted in the comment section, “Whichever one of his friends thought of this is brilliantly diabolical.” Ellaleski1, “His older brother was really out to get him.” Another viewer noted, “Jokes on his fantasy football team, he’s gonna be the most beautiful butterfly after this!”
