Just when you thought the ongoing game of one-upmanship between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman couldn’t get any more intense, the former decided to play the latter at his own game by starring in all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza Spirited, almost as if he’s doing it to fire one final shot across the bows ahead of Deadpool 3.
We know that Jackman is a musical maestro, one who literally just finished up a run on Broadway in The Music Man, so could we see the mutton-chopped mutant and the Merc with a Mouth belt out a tune or two when their long-awaited team-up finally comes to theaters in November 2024?
Well, that’s exactly the question Reynolds was posed by Deadline when being asked about Spirited ditty “Good Afternoon” and its chances of landing an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, and his response was about as NSFW as you’d expect coming from the brains behind the irreverent R-rated comic book adaptations.
“I don’t know. I would have trouble singing as I’m gargling his blood. No, we’ll see.”
Jackman has already admitted that one of the things he’s looking forward to the most about the impending shoot is getting to “punch the sh*t out of Ryan Reynolds every day,” so there might not be any time for the two iconic superheroes to indulge in an expertly-choreographed interlude.
That doesn’t mean we don’t want to see it happen, and if there’s ever a time and a place for an unexpected MCU musical moment, then surely Deadpool 3 is the ideal destination.
