A far-fetched ‘Spider-Man’ theory would probably happen at Sony, but Marvel wouldn’t even consider it

Let's just thank our lucky stars Marvel is holding the reigns.

Without a doubt, Marvel fans have some wild theories. Sometimes they’re not far off the mark, but other times they couldn’t be any more wrong. One particularly out-there Spider-Man theory posted to Reddit definitely falls into the latter category, although Sony would probably give it some thought.

As it stands, the Marvel Studios subreddit is definitely the place to go for wild MCU theories. One user put forward their own crazy idea and it was quickly shot down by fellow fans. Their theory was that Uncle Ben was actually still alive and that he and May had just gotten a divorce.

They back up their claim with proof that solidifies the idea. The main point is that Ben’s death is never mentioned by anyone across all of the MCU Spider-Man movies. Of course, it’s more likely that Marvel knew its audience would be tired of hearing about poor old Uncle Ben, so conversations about him were likely kept to a minimum because of that.

Of course, this idea would completely undermine Peter’s character and motivations. It would be like Batman’s parents never dying, it’s an integral part of his character and why he does what he does.

Fans also pointed out that the end of No Way Home renders this idea moot, as nobody remembers who Peter Parker is so his own Uncle wouldn’t even know him.

Of course, whilst Marvel would have the good sense to keep this as far away from the films as possible, it has to co-parent the little web-slinger with Sony who aren’t as good at decision making. It’s scary to think that someone at Sony could see this because they would definitely give it serious consideration, and if you think they wouldn’t we implore you to go back and watch Morbius and then say that the studio that produced that film wouldn’t try something like this. It’s just a sad fact that even though it’s bringing us the highly anticipate Spider-Man Across the Spider-verse, fans don’t trust Sony anymore.

It’s also worth noting that Sony did something similar to this in bringing Peter’s dad back from the dead in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, although they chickened out before the film was released and removed the scene. Although that might have saved the film from being as much of a failure if they had gone through with it. Still, they could try and crowbar that trashed story into the newest iteration of the character, just swap out Peter’s dad for his uncle.

In all likelihood, we’ll never see that theory play out on our screens as Marvel would never seek to alter the backstory of one of their most famous characters in such an infuriating way. We should all consider ourselves lucky that we have Marvel Studios to keep Sony in check, because the same can’t be said for them.
