For fans of Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse, Shadow and Bone has done a reasonable job of adapting the world they know and love.
The show’s attempts to combine multiple books, plots, and character arcs into a single show aren’t going great, however, particularly as season two’s overstuffed nature leaves some fans wanting far more. But more could be in our future if Netflix chooses to give a Six of Crows spinoff the green-light.
Season two of Shadow and Bone is doing great in terms of viewership, and continues to dominate as one of Netflix’s most-watched shows of the last week. Despite its flaws, people are flocking to the fantasy series in droves, but much of the show’s fanbase is there for one reason and one reason only: the Crows. The largely side-longed characters have yet to see most of their adventures translated from the page to the screen, with their presence instead largely serving as aid for Alina’s continued quest to save Ravka.
If they were to get their own spinoff series, centered entirely around the events of Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, the Crows would finally get their true chance to shine. Sure, they’re standouts in the Shadow and Bone story already, but their story has been hugely limited by Alina’s overarching purpose.
The story contained within Six of Crows is compact, fast-paced, and thrilling. It follows a team comprised of Kaz, Jesper, Wylan, Inej, Nina, and Matthias as they venture far from Ketterdam to pull off a bold and nearly impossible heist. Their quest? To steal a vital Grisha from the Ice Court, Fjerda’s most secure prison, before the secret behind a brutal new drug spreads.
The story is one massive, complicated heist, that kept readers guessing through its every moment. If pulled off well — or even adequately — by Netflix, it could be one of their most popular fantasy releases yet. But only if it gets its chance to shine.
The mere notion of a Six of Crows spinoff is sending fans of the series into a frenzy online, as they consider the story’s broad potential. They’re determined to see Matthias’ time in Hellgate end, and for the hexad to finally see their best book moments translated for the small screen.
News that season one of the potential spinoff series is already complete, and merely awaiting approval, ramped up the excitement even more as fans realized just how possible a Six of Crows series truly is.
As the hype continues to climb, fans are cherry-picking their favorite moments from the books and begging Netflix to see their potential in a series.
We still don’t even know if Shadow and Bone will return for a third season, let alone if the Six of Crows spinoff is real, but fans clearly have their minds made up. They want to see the Crows get their own show, and things look poised to follow in Warrior Nun‘s footsteps if their demands go unmet.
