Jonathan Majors’ assault allegation leaves everyone trying to decide whether to treat him like Johnny Depp or Ezra Miller

The recently reported allegation of assault against Jonathan Majors has left everyone in a daze. It hasn’t helped that filmmakers who have worked with the actor described him as a “sociopath” mere hours after news emerged that the MCU star was arrested (but also subsequently released) by the police after a complaint was filed against him. At this point, Tinseltown has many high-profile cases of celebrities who have or are facing assault allegations. But what the internet can’t decide is whether Majors deserves to be treated like Johnny Depp or seen as another Ezra Miller.

The world is pretty aware of both actors’ respective pasts. In Depp’s case, his ex-partner Amber Heard claimed to be a domestic abuse victim while the actor alleged that it was the Aquaman actress who hit him on multiple occasions during the course of their marriage. As for Miller, their career seemed to be on the brink of extinction after a string of controversies — ranging from disturbing behavior on set, assault allegations, getting arrested for disorderly conduct, etc., — but after they apologized and swore they were seeking help for “complex mental health issues,” the chatter somewhat died down. 

Now Majors, who recently tasted stardom with hits like Ant-Man 3 and Creed 3, appears to be at a similar crossroads. Apart from demands to Marvel Studio to recast Kang in the MCU and even debates about whether he should be lumped together with Miller, many are also wondering if the actor deserves the kind of support Depp continues to receive. 

But some have already decided that Majors should be seen through the same lens through which the world has been viewing Miller. 

As far as the allegations against Majors are concerned, they are still being investigated and his lawyer has shared that he expects the charges to be “dropped imminently.” As for the actor’s presence in the MCU, saying anything for certain is impossible at the moment — in the past, the studio had cut ties with James Gunn for a lot less and then brought him back. Then there is the example of how Disney tackled the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard case and quickly severed all connection with the Pirates of the Caribbean star on the basis of allegations. 

The future of Phases Five and Six rests on Kang the Conqueror, but it remains to be seen what the recent unfortunate turn in events means for Majors’ chances of getting to play the villain in future films.
