Jamie Foxx suffered a major medical incident in April 2023, though the exact details of what happened to him are still unclear. The news was originally announced by Foxx’s daughter Corinne and she asked everyone to respect the family’s privacy.
This has been adhered to, and Foxx and his family have as yet refused to clarify precisely what left the actor in such a grave condition. Consequently, it’s also unclear how his recovery is proceeding. So, what has been revealed and what can we surmise?
Why was Jamie Foxx hospitalized?
In May 2023 TMZ reported that Foxx was receiving medical care in Chicago, noting that this facility specializes in “stroke recovery, traumatic brain injury rehab, spinal cord injury rehab and cancer rehabilitation.”
We don’t know that he’s suffered any major injuries and he doesn’t seem to have cancer, and the fact that his ill health came out of nowhere means it’s possible he may have suffered a minor stroke.
In July Foxx released an emotional video on Instagram explaining that he’d been “to hell and back,” and had kept his condition a secret as he “didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”
Foxx posted a video in late November of him tossing a football the full length of a basketball court, neatly dropping it into the hoop, so he’s clearly well on the road to recovery. If he has suffered a stroke he certainly appears to be recovering quickly, but even though that’s the most likely option we can’t rule out a rarer neurological condition.
Here’s hoping we one day find out what happened. But, in the meantime, Foxx has bigger fish to fry as he’s been accused of sexual assault relating to a 2015 incident. So, all in all, it’s not been a great 2023 for him.
