James Gunn uses ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ BTS look to definitively destroy a persistent rumor

James Gunn has finally made it clear what inspired the Guardians' space suits.

Leading up to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3‘s theatrical release, James Gunn is doing whatever it takes to quash a rumor that has been floating about since the trailer’s release. Maybe this time, this will be enough to satisfy fans.

Gunn shared a behind-the-scenes photo on Twitter that featured Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Pom Klementieff in their space suits. Gunn used this opportunity to clear the air once and for all and claimed that the outfits were inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey, not the popular video game, Among Us. Surely, this should be enough to calm fans down once and for all.

Since the trailer for the Guardians of the Galaxy‘s third installment was released last December, the space suits the Guardians were seen wearing were constantly being compared to the popular video game featured in Glass Onion. While it didn’t help that Gunn made a vague tweet when sharing where the suits were inspired from, it still gave clues that it was based on the iconic space film.

Even though Gunn has advised fans not to believe in rumors and speculation, this new tweet hasn’t stopped them from poking fun at the outfits. After all, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had strong references to Pac-Man. Who’s to say that Vol. 3 wouldn’t lean towards a modern video game title?

Regardless, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. is set to be the final installment for this superhero team, with Dave Bautista bowing out from his role as Drax. Not to mention, Gunn warned fans of tears when watching the final film and that it will focus more on Rocket Raccoon’s back story. Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 3. will be out in theaters on May 5, 2023.
