Ryan Reynolds continues his battle with Rob McElhenney for most unconventional birthday gift of all time

Who knows what next year will bring?

Ryan Reynolds is far from a conventional person, so it should come as no surprise that his version of a gift falls more on the peculiar side. Earlier today, the Deadpool star took to Twitter and YouTube to congratulate his good pal Rob McElhenney on his 46th birthday, and what better way to do so than with a music video solely dedicated to him?

Since McElhenney rose to fame by creating and starring in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, he has been plagued with the continuous mispronunciation of his last name. In all fairness, it’s not the easiest thing to pronounce, but putting himself in McElhenney’s shoes, Reynolds decided it was time for people to learn. Thus, the actor took matters into his own hands by creating and performing a song about it.

The music video includes many other well-known faces alongside Reynolds, among which are Always Sunny stars Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, and Kaitlin Olson, McElhenney’s wife. Various scenes also showcase the soccer club the two friends bought together, Wrexham AFC, and an impressively choreographed dance routine at a pub.

This isn’t the first time McElhenney and Reynolds have exchanged unconventional gifts. Just last year, Reynolds dedicated a urinal to his co-owner, and in response, the Always Sunny showrunner celebrated his friend’s birthday by putting a rather unflattering picture of Reynolds as a maskless Deadpool on a giant blimp. Reynolds promised to get back at him in 2023, and as we can see, he made good on his promise.

All in all, a music video is far from the worst thing Reynolds could have come up with.
