Stephen King says the latest adaptation of his work is so scary sending it to streaming would be ‘f*cking stupid’

We'll find out for ourselves in just a few weeks.

History has shown that Stephen King isn’t a huge fan of every adaptation of his work, which is proven quite neatly by the fact he’s one of the very few people who believes the miniseries adaptation of The Shining to be superior to Stanley Kubrick’s seminal classic.

On the other side of the coin, his favorite of all-time is Storm of the Century, which just so happens to be a completely original story he wrote exclusively from the small screen, but his ringing endorsement of The Boogeyman should still hold plenty of sway given that it hails from Host and DASHCAM director Rob Savage; one of horror’s hottest rising talents.

In fact, Disney subsidiary 20th Century Studios is so confident in the movie that it was pulled from Hulu and upgraded to a theatrical release, something that King ended up playing a huge part in, as Savage revealed in an interview with Total Film.

“When the movie tested so well, we decided it was time to get his input, so we rented out his favorite cinema in Maine. He knows what he doesn’t like and if we’d have f*cked up his story, he’d have told us. But he sent a lovely almost-essay about how much he enjoyed the movie. And then the next day I wake up and there’s an email in my inbox from Steve King and he said he’s still thinking about the movie. He said a few more nice things and the nicest thing that he said was, ‘They’d be f*cking stupid to release this on streaming and not in cinemas.'”

There you have it folks; The Boogeyman has the ringing endorsement of none other than Stephen King, which bodes well for the terrifying tale becoming a certifiable box office sensation when it lands only on the big screen this coming June.
