Latest Marvel News: ‘Guardians 3’ reviews drop perilously close to ‘Quantumania’ as James Gunn names the character doomed in every timeline

Meanwhile, Chris Pratt reveals why we shouldn't expect to see more of Star-Lord.

Remember when MCU threequels were the most universally beloved entries in the franchise? Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War… Unfortunately, the winning streak was broken just earlier this year with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and now it appears that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is failing to break the curse. Elsewhere, James Gunn spills about the Guardian he was always determined to doom while Chris Pratt admits why we are practically guaranteed never to see him back as Peter Quill.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is officially the MCU’s second-worst threequel (but you know what’s worst)

After a super encouraging start, Guardians 3‘s Rotten Tomatoes score quickly plummeted, enough to make it the worst-reviewed of the trilogy. Now it’s trickled down further to ensure the movie is the second-worst MCU threequel of them all. We don’t need to say what’s right at the bottom, but Guardians 3‘s RT rating has now drifted below that of Iron Man 3, which once stood as one of the franchise’s most divisive movies. By the looks of it, then, this threequel is bound to share the fate of Robert Downey Jr.’s own trilogy-closer and inspire polarized reactions for years to come.

James Gunn reveals Gamora was originally going to die sooner than Avengers: Infinity War

Gamora’s death/Quill’s reunion with the alternate Gamora from Avengers: Endgame feels like a major plot point that was foisted on James Gunn by the Russo brothers. However, while he might not appreciate everything they did with his characters in Avengers 3 and 4, he had no problem with Gamora’s demise as Gunn has now dropped the shocking bombshell that Zoe Saldaña’s heroine was initially supposed to die at the end of Vol. 2, meaning Gunn essentially got to continue his Vol. 3 story as planned. So, basically, Gamora is doomed in every version of the timeline.

Chris Pratt reveals the (very sweet) reason he’s unlikely to return as Star-Lord

While many other members of the Guardians cast have explicitly categorized Vol. 3 as their final MCU appearance, Chris Pratt has yet to speak in such conclusive terms. However, he’s pretty much come out and said it in a new interview, by admitting that he can’t imagine playing Star-Lord again without Gunn and his long-term co-stars around him, describing that as the biggest reason “not to do it.” While it would be a “daunting” prospect, he still didn’t 100 percent rule out the possibility, although it does seem like Peter Quill may dance his last dance-off in the incoming film.

More of the latest from the Guardians of the Galaxy and the whole wide Marvel multiverse — like the unexpected truth behind Samuel L. Jackson’s MCU debut — will come to a cosmos near you soon.
