‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ test footage shows the cutest Rocket you’ve ever seen

We're melting over here.

There’s been a whole lot of buzz about Rocket’s story arc and how it’s going to be an emotional time for fans of Bradley Cooper’s wisecracking character Rocket Raccoon when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally arrives in a few days time. As the pre-release excitement is finally starting to peak, James Gunn shared a little something on Twitter to hopefully help tide fans over.

The director of the upcoming threequel posted some behind-the-scenes visual effects test footage which sees a presumably pre-High Evolutionary Rocket chittering and playing with another raccoon, before approaching and sniffing the camera. Needless to say, this is probably Rocket at his absolute cutest, and our hearts are just melting.

A lot of the press junkets and promotional materials ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s arrival in theaters have certainly been hinting towards Rocket being something of a primary protagonist in the upcoming threequel. The film’s composer revealed that they enjoyed writing music around Rocket the most, and Bradley Cooper himself recently admitted that he had a good cry while watching his character’s story arc unfold in an early cut of the film.

It’s no secret by this point that Rocket’s complicated and troubling past (which involved the film’s big bad, the High Evolutionary) is something that’s going to be explored in this movie. The more that comes to light about it, the more it’s starting to look like we’re going to need a pocket tissue on hand when we go and see the movie for ourselves, lest we end up snotty and blubbering messes.

All will be revealed in a few days time – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives on May 5.
