Taylor Lautner feels safe with Taylor Swift’s ‘Speak Now’ re-release, but is ‘praying for John’

Lautner says it's another of Swift's exes that should be worried.

Though they commonly say hell has no fury like a woman scorned, Taylor Lautner has nothing to fear. The actor, who previously dated singer Taylor Swift, has commented on the singer’s recent musical re-releases, explaining that he feels no worry about Swift’s fans turning against him.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Lautner, who dated Swift for three months way back in 2009, was asked about Swift’s upcoming release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) during an interview with Today.com. The album’s song, “Back to December”, is rumored to be about Swift’s breakup with Lautner. Lautner, however, was casual, saying, “I think it’s a great album. Yeah, I feel safe.”

Lautner instead chose to joke that it should be John Mayer, who dated Swift between 2009 and 2010, who should be worried about his perception by Swift’s fanbase. Stating he was “praying for John,” Lautner was likely referring to Swift’s song “Dear John”, which is rumored to be about Mayer and which also came out on the original Speak Now album.

Luckily, it appears as though Lautner (who is currently married to wife Taylor Dome – she goes by ‘Tay’ to avoid confusion) and Swift have made amends. In fact, rumors have been popping up about Lautner’s involvement with Swift’s next release, with some suggesting the actor may be in Swift’s new music video for the project.

Swift has been re-releasing her music under a ‘Taylor’s Version’ label following a long and gruelling legal battle with her former manager Scooter Braun, who owned the rights to most of her music. Following the end of that battle, Swift decided to re-record and re-release her music. In her backlog, however, Swift has released a few albums centered featuring songs rumored to be about her ex-boyfriends, preferring to deal with heartbreak through song. Unfortunately for Swift’s ex-boyfriends, the album re-releases have dredged up bad blood between the singers fans and her exes.

For instance, back in November of 2021, Swift released Red (Taylor’s Version), which was accompanied by a 10-minute music video version of the singer’s 2012 hit “All Too Well”, which is rumored to be about ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal. The re-release of the song inspired increased scrutiny about the age gap between the two when they dated (Swift was just 20, Gyllenhaal was 29, something highlighted by Swift’s stand-in being played by Sadie Sink, while Gyllenhaal’s is played by Dylan O’Brien) and countless memes about Swift, Gyllenhaal, and a red scarf reportedly borrowed by Gyllenhaal that was never returned.

The singer has gotten into trouble with her fans thanks to her recent dating choices. Swift has recently been linked with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, whose own controversies involve reportedly making racist comments and racist gestures, have been heating up. It remains to be seen as to whether or not this next album release will change the narrative for Swift.
