Warning: This article contains spoilers for Succession season 4.
Succession cast member Peter Friedman has been trawling through Reddit theories surrounding the show, and believes fans might not be too far from predicting what will happen when the series finale airs in a few short hours. Friedman, who has portrayed vice chairman of Waystar Royco, Frank Vernon throughout the show’s four-season run, spoke of the finale episode in an interview with The Guardian, saying “people are on the right track” with their predictions.
When asked what the viewer reaction to the last-ever episode of the HBO series might be, Friedman said: “I’m fascinated to find out. I sometimes look at Reddit and, let me tell you, people are on the right track.” After admitting that the show’s “darts are all over the board” in terms of potential plot points and climactic moments, Friedman said viewers have “been narrowing it down to what’s actually going to happen.”
A quick trawl of Reddit theories will find you plenty of speculation regarding Succession’s finale, with one user suggesting that Kendall Roy (played by Jeremy Strong) ends up on top of Waystar Royco while Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) inherits the title of CEO of ATN. Elsewhere, viewers have predicted that Tom and Siobhan Roy (Sarah Snook) will stay together (albeit miserably).
Others have taken a more outlandish look at the finale episode by suggesting that Kendall will be cannibalized by a remote tribe while travelling to New Guinea. While Friedman did not specify which of theories might be the closest to the actual script, he did describe the finale as “wonderfully riveting,” and said audiences will be “leaving on a high.”
As for the secrecy around the final season, Friedman said he was amazed nothing leaked from the set, and said news of the death of Logan Roy (Brian Cox) was even withheld from castmate Harriet Walter, who plays Logan’s ex-wife Lady Caroline Collingwood. Friedman went on to float his own pick for who should succeed Logan, saying he’s been “so enamoured by what Alexander Skarsgård is doing” in his role as GoJo CEO Lukas Mattson.
Perhaps most relatably, given his series-long abusive tirades, Friedman admitted that Cox’s portrayal of Logan is “frightening.” He continued: “I don’t mean just acting frightening, I mean actually frightening…But he’s also the nicest guy in the world.”
The Succession series finale will air on HBO and stream on Max on May 28.
