Netflix’s newest trashy and increasingly far-fetched erotic thriller catfishes the Top 10 in 74 countries

Subscribers continue proving to be a smutty bunch.

There are few absolute certainties in life, but along with death and taxes, a brand new Netflix original erotic thriller making a play straight for the top of the charts as soon as it arrives on the content library is definitely one of them. As chance would have it, the latest in the platform’s long line of titillating tales has arrived, and you’ll never guess what’s happened to Fake Profile.

That’s right; it’s immediately become one of the most-watched episodic offerings available to subscribers around the world. While it hasn’t been able to dislodge Arnold Schwarzenegger’s bulging biceps and action-packed adventure FUBAR from the number one spot, the Colombian catfisher has nonetheless taken second place on the worldwide rankings after breaching the Top 10 in 74 countries, per FlixPatrol.

The increasingly far-fetched story focuses on Camila, who decides that a dating app is the ideal way of finding the man of her dreams. Sure enough, hunky Fernando appears on the scene and the sparks begin to fly. Except, he isn’t single nor is his name Fernando, leading to a nightmare that threatens to spiral out of control.

Taking things personally, Camila then opts to uncover the true identity of “Fernando” and make him pay for his sins, dishing out retribution for every single one of the lies she’d been told. Fake Profile is trashy nonsense of the highest order, but that’s precisely the reason why the salacious subgenre tends to be so reliably watchable among Netflix’s customer base. It ain’t high art, but it’s apparently must-see television.
