‘It’s actually just sad’: The star of two recently-canceled TV franchises left understandably distraught

The cancellation spree is hitting some harder than others.

Belts are being tightened all across the world of television on both networks and streaming services, but few have suffered a double-whammy of disappointment quite like Misha Collins.

Not only was he just getting to grips with becoming the latest actor to play iconic Batman character Harvey Dent in Gotham Knights before The CW axed the series after just one season, but he recently had to sit idly by and watch Supernatural spin-off The Winchesters try and fail to find a new home after it too was discarded by the exact same company.

Plenty of people try and put on a brave face in the midst of such overwhelming disappointment, but Collins was having none of it after he admitted to Deadline that he was genuinely upset by two small screen franchises in which he played a major part biting the dust at almost the exact same time.

“I was just cleaning out my garage, and I had all of these boxes and I was finally sorting through it. I don’t know where all of this stuff came from, but I had like 60 or 70 Supernatural t-shirts and dozens of copies of Entertainment Weekly magazines that we were on the cover of. I was like, ‘Oh. I just have to bring all this stuff to Goodwill. This chapter of my life is over.’ I was gonna say bittersweet, but it’s actually just sad.

I’m not sure what the sweet part of it is. We have to move on and take on other exciting projects in our lives, but Supernatural is always going to have just such a fond place in my heart because it was such a big chapter of my life, but it also so radically changed my life. I still hold on to some shred of hope that, at some point, we can do some resurrection of the show. Some movie or limited-run series… find some way to say hello and goodbye to the characters one more time.”

As downcast as he is following the end of not just one but two TV properties he was heavily involved with, it won’t be long before he settles on his next episodic venture, which we can only hope lasts a little bit longer next time around for his emotional well-being.
