Taylor Kitsch May Join The Need For Speed Film

For a year that was supposed to be all about Taylor Kitsch, the actor has sure had a couple of very depressing months. John Carter was supposed to be the start of Kitch's ascent to stardom but we all know what happened there. Battleship looked to capitalize on the mistakes made by Disney's bomb but unfortunately, the outcome wasn't much better. Finally, Savages appeared to be the actor's saviour, especially with an American legend behind the camera. And, while the film didn't exactly bomb, it didn't do too well.

For a year that was supposed to be all about Taylor Kitsch, the actor has sure had a couple of very depressing months. John Carter was supposed to be the start of Kitch’s ascent to stardom, but we all know how that turned out.

Battleship looked to capitalize on the mistakes made by Disney’s bomb but unfortunately, the outcome wasn’t much better. Finally, Savages appeared to be the actor’s saviour, especially with an American legend behind the camera. And, while the film didn’t exactly bomb, it didn’t do too well either.

Now, Zap2It reports that Taylor Kitsch has been offered the lead role in the upcoming videogame adaptation of Need For Speed, which has Scott Waugh attached to direct. The actor hasn’t officially signed on just yet, but he is considering it.

As for the role, details are still hazy but the project could be a smart career choice. The man desperately needs a hit, and we do mean desperately. While the Need for Speed film won’t exactly earn him any awards recognition, the film will still reach a large audience and expose him to the right type of demographic that he needs to help build his fanbase.

The Need for Speed brand is a well known one and the film will certainly do well at the box office, with some saying it will follow in the footsteps of the Fast and Furious series.

Kitsch isn’t a bad actor, I really don’t think he is. In fact, say what you want but I enjoyed all three of his 2012 films, especially Savages. So don’t discount the man just yet. Taylor Kitsch may have had a disappointing 2012, but I’m betting that he’ll turn things around in 2013.

Need for Speed hits theatres on February 7th, 2014.
