Generally speaking, there’s no wrong way to be a fan. Want to go to the theater dressed as your favorite superhero and enjoy Marvel’s The Marvels? Make it happen, Cap’n. Want to eat corn out of an egg sac and drink bubbling sugar out of the head of a cat while you do it?
Well, that’s also a conversation that we can have, thanks to the good people at AMC. In preparation for The Marvels, and following in the footsteps of the giants who’ve made themed plastic popcorn containers before them, the chain of cinemas has announced a very special promotion for fans of space cats and sodium overdoses: The Flerkitten popcorn and cup collectible. More than just a reminder of a great day at the theater, it’s the holiday season’s hottest way to exsanguinate a kitty at the movies.
The collectible Flerkitten, modeled after the lovable, insatiable, betentacled Flerken cat monsters introduced to the MCU in Captain Marvel, was introduced via a social media post by the folks at Fandango. It’s an AMC exclusive, so you’ll have to drop a few bucks at that specific theater chain to get it – $39.99, to be specific. Alternatively, you could always risk waiting until the little darlings hit eBay at wildly inflated prices in the weeks that follow.
The Flerkitten soda cups, available at AMC concession stands on November 9, come obscured in adorably horrifying pink flesh sacs, adding an air of mystery to the proceedings. The smiling kitties come in a variety of cat breed-inspired colors, including a Siamese-adjacent white and charcoal, a smoky dark variety with stunning green eyes, and the enviable, extra-rare solid gold variety. There’s no way of knowing which one you’ll get until you tear open the simulated viscera of the popcorn container, so be ready to spend hundreds of dollars getting the Flerkitten of your dreams. On a related note, be ready to explain to your doctor why you ate three cubic feet of popcorn when you went to see The Marvels.
Commemorative popcorn holders have become a staple of the movie theater industry over the last few years. Earlier in 2023, fans of salty morality sadism could eat and drink out of the head of the Jigsaw Killer’s puppet, while folks hoping to make The Flash an even brighter, more obnoxious experience than it already was could buy a limited edition popcorn bucket that would light up with an array of stunning LEDs, making anyone who purchased it the most annoying thing in the theater, save for Ezra Miller.
