Vince Carter Headed To Phoenix

It looks like the Vince Carter experiment failed in Orlando. But it appears that another team will give Vinsanity a shot. ESPN is reporting that the Orlando Magic have traded Carter to the Phoenix Suns, along with Marcin Gortat, Mickeal Pietrus, a 2011 first-round pick and cash considerations. In exchange, the Phoenix Suns will give up Hedo Turkoglu, along with Jason Richardson and Earl Clark.

The Magic may not be done there either as they are discussing a deal which may land them Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards in exchange for Rashard Lewis.

Pairing Vince Carter with Steve Nash should at least make things interesting, and the Suns style of offense could possibly be just exactly what Carter needs to return to even a shadow of his old self. But it seems to me the Suns are giving up a little too much for Vinsanity and Gortat alone, though they get rid of Turkoglu’s contract. Carter is in the last year of his contract. Still, it does also give them a little defensive help in Gortat. If things don’t pan out well for Phoenix, they can easily cut ties with Carter, and have also cleared lots of cap room. If they do pan out, the Suns become relevant again.

The Orlando Magic would appear to be the clear winners here, as Turkoglu was at his best in Orlando, and Jason Richardson is an excellent and proven scoring weapon to install into that offense. If they can land Arenas, they instantly become serious contenders again. With the Miami Heat beginning to gel, now was the time for the Magic to make a move.

This trade seems to work well for both sides. What do you think?
