U.S. President Donald Trump answers questions while departing the White House on July 11, 2025 in Washington, DC. Trump is scheduled to travel to Central Texas today to meet with first responders and local elected officials involved with the recovery process from last week's flash flooding event that has claimed more than 120 lives. ‘If the truth can destroy it, then let it be destroyed’: MAGA says Epstein files must be released, even if it ends Trump

Even MAGA has a limit when it comes to Trump's lies.

Donald Trump is trying as hard as he can to get everyone to stop talking about Jeffrey Epstein and the files naming those involved in his pedophilic web of sexual abuse. Yesterday, Trump was asked why he thought his base was so upset, replying:

“Why would they be so interested? He’s dead for a long time. … I don’t understand what the interest is or what the fascination is. … I don’t understand why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody. It’s pretty boring stuff.”

Well, uh, people are interested in Epstein’s files because they would seem to implicate very powerful people in very serious crimes. Also, because you promised you’d release it, and Pam Bondi said the client list was on her desk! Now, apparently, the list doesn’t exist, you won’t release anything, and what doesn’t exist is “boring”.

MAGA adores Trump, but even they have a limit for the lies they’re expected to swallow, and Trump just hit it. For many, Trump’s promise to expose Epstein’s crimes was a core reason for supporting him, leaving even the most pro-Trump cheerleaders in a tough spot.

Let the pieces fall where they may

Now, perhaps admirably, they’re taking the position that the files must be released, even if what’s in them directly implicates Trump himself. The staunchest MAGA conservatives are asking some serious questions, with Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe wondering: “If everything was suddenly not redacted, and I mean everything… Would we live in a better world, or a worse world?”

Some in the replies say that, if knowing some senior politicians were directly involved with Epstein, we should keep it quiet so as not to derail the Trump plan. But many others say expose the truth to the light, come what may: “If the truth can destroy it, then let it be destroyed”, “It would be worse first with the initial shock but then better because everyone would come together to cure the sickness”, and “If we live in the shadows we are merely their obedient slaves.”

Naturally, most MAGA devotees are praying with every fiber of their being that there’s no evidence Trump was more involved with Epstein than we already knew. For them, it’s an uncomfortable truth that he was close friends with Epstein and flew on his Lolita Express plane, though they can tell themselves he was merely a business acquaintance who Trump cut off before the bad stuff happened.

But let’s face it, Trump suddenly and suspiciously U-turned on releasing these files for a reason. If there’s one thing we know about Trump it’s that he always acts in his own interests, leading many to conclude the Epstein files will cast him in an unpleasant light. That suspicion is only raised now that Trump is hinting they’re a Democrat plot to destroy him, giving him a pre-made defense if they were ever leaked.

We’ll just have to wait and see how this shakes out. But one thing is for sure, MAGA isn’t going to roll over like Trump wants and stop asking questions about Jeffrey Epstein and his clients.
