‘She looks like a woman to me’: Trump urges right-wing influencer to stop ‘transvestigating’ world leader’s wife

Finally, a conspiracy Trump doesn't believe in.

According to MAGA influencer Candace Owens, President Trump asked her to stop “transvestigating” the conspiracy theory that French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife, Brigitte Macron was born a man and then later transitioned.

Owens disclosed the contents of her conversation with Trump during the August 1, 2025, episode of The Tucker Carlson Show podcast. Owens said Trump called her in February and asked her to stop after President Macron flew to Washington for Ukraine-Russian war talks. But while there, Owens said Trump told her that Macron asked him to tell Owens to cease talking about the widely debunked theory that Brigitte was born male.

What Trump said

According to Owens, Trump said Brigitte, 72, was greatly affected by the ongoing controversy, with Owens being one of the most outspoken proponents. After speaking with a White House intermediary at first, Owens said the president spoke to her on the phone, and said, “I saw her up close and she looks like a woman to me.”

Trump also said he was very confused when Macron brought Owens up in the conversation about Russia and Ukraine and asked if Trump could talk to her. Owens said she told Trump, “It’s not my fault that he married somebody with a p—is,” but said she’s somewhat backed off the baseless theory since then.

Even Megyn Kelly thinks “It sounds a lot like conspiracy”

Brigitte Macron and Candace Owens resurfaced on August 6, when Megyn Kelly criticized Owens’ coverage of the debunked conspiracy theory about France’s First Lady. President Emmanuel Macron has filed a defamation lawsuit against Owens over the claims, and Owens has produced an entire web series promoting the theory. Kelly admitted she hadn’t watched but said her producers had summarized for her.

Referring to Owens, Kelly said in part, “It sounds a lot like conspiracy. Some of the conspiracies that we’ve criticized in the past have come true. I don’t know whether this will be one of them, but I don’t totally get it.”

Kelly added of Owen, “She’s a conspiracy theorist who got twisted up on this Macron thing, and it’s not true, and she refuses to see reason. I’m not sure that’s reckless disregard. That’s the worst-case scenario. The best case scenario for Candace is it’s true and these people are lying about it because they don’t want to be humiliated.”

After Kelly’s comments, Owens shot back on X, “From transgenderism to Covid,
@megynkelly has consistently been on the wrong side of every issue. She thinks she’s smarter than her audience but she isn’t. She is being destroyed in her own comment section for trying to do a hit piece on me in defense of Brigitte Macron.”
