Donald Trump’s ‘revenge tour’ has DOJ investigating the New York AG who sued him

Trump is going after those who opposed him.

Donald Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ) is going to investigate the New York Attorney General who sued him. Federal prosecutors have started looking into the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James, who was in charge of a well-known civil fraud case against Donald Trump.

The DOJ investigation focuses on whether James’s office went beyond its legal authority and broke the legal rights of both the former president and the National Rifle Association (NRA) through its civil lawsuits. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York is handling the investigation.

This federal investigation follows major legal wins by James’s office. In the civil fraud case against Trump and his business, a judge ruled that they had lied about his financial situation. This led to a penalty of over $300 million, which has now increased to more than $500 million with interest. The ruling is currently being appealed. Additionally, James’s office took legal action against the NRA and its leaders.

While a court blocked her effort to shut down the organization, a jury did find the NRA’s former leader, Wayne LaPierre, guilty of spending millions of the group’s money on himself. In response to the federal investigation, a spokesperson for the attorney general’s office defended its actions, saying that any “misuse of the justice system should worry every American” and reaffirming their full support for the successful cases against the Trump Organization and the NRA. The office promised to keep working to defend the rights of New Yorkers.

Trump is going after lawyers who sued him

James’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, called the investigation a political move by the current administration to get back at her. He said the probe was a “clear and reckless attempt” to target an elected official just for doing her job. Lowell also warned that such actions threaten the rule of law and represent a dangerous abuse of government power. This comes after Trump’s lawyer said you had to sue him to remove him, but if you sue, you’re getting taken down.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has not made any public statements about the case. Lowell sent a letter that called the “threadbare allegations” the “next salvo in President Trump’s revenge tour against Attorney General James.” It’s not hard to see the claim of revenge, since Trump’s own lawyers wanted to use the military against citizens.

This investigation is the newest chapter in a long and very public fight between Trump and James. The former president has criticized the attorney general for years, claiming she is unfairly biased against him. In 2021, he sued to stop her fraud investigation, accusing her of only wanting to attack a political rival. He later withdrew the lawsuit, but he has kept criticizing her publicly, including in a social media post where he called her a “crazy” and “completely corrupt politician.”
