Teyana Taylor pays ex Iman Shumpert a humiliating $70,000 to finally find ‘peace’

She feels like she is being punished for protecting her ex.

Teyana Taylor revealed that a recent court order requiring her to pay her ex-husband and Dancing With The Stars alum, Iman Shumpert, a substantial amount of money – but it was a price she willingly paid for her own peace of mind.

The singer told The Breakfast Club that she was ordered to pay $70,000 for violating the terms of their divorce agreement. The court’s decision was a result of Taylor publicly disclosing details about their divorce judgment, which was in direct violation of a sealed agreement the former couple had in place.

Taylor said, “To punish me because of my accolades is insane. However, if it’s gonna give me my peace and we can be done with this for good, I sent that wire so fast. I sent that wire so f–king fast. That was the best lil coin I ever spent in my life because I never have to deal with this again.”

The legal action started because of a video Taylor shared on Instagram in March, where she addressed rumors about their split. She said, “Before this divorce, during this divorce and after this divorce, I protected that man with all I had in me. … So the fact that you are OK with the world thinking that I took you for everything that you had, have the world thinking that I tried to get you locked up?”

The court hearing in July, which resulted in the contempt ruling, determined that her video revealed information about their June 2024 divorce judgment. Taylor had also accused Shumpert of organizing a “smear campaign” against her by leaking information about their divorce to the press. She suggested that his actions were an attempt to punish her for her successes and being timed in a way that does so.

Taylor, who filed for divorce in January 2023, has maintained that her ex-husband was emotionally abusive and insecure about her fame. She stated that he would use social media to provoke her, knowing her preference for privacy. She expressed her frustration with the constant public drama, noting that every time something positive happens in her life, it is overshadowed by new information related to the divorce.

Taylor said, “Every single time something amazing is going on in my life, it’s something about this divorce. It don’t be nothing else. I’m never in nothing.” and to adress those who think her ex husband wouldn’t do this, she said, “Some people are OK with looking bad just as long as you look worse.”
