Bride strolls into McDonald’s with bucket and scissors. Some say she’s doing them a favor

She showed up to McDonald's with scissors and a bucket. You know where this is going.

A bride has got people talking on TikTok after sharing her unusual way of getting flowers for her wedding. Olivia Schlottach posted a video showing herself going to a McDonald’s parking lot with a bucket and a pair of scissors, ready to collect flowers for her big day.

The TikTok video, which has got nearly 600,000 views, shows Schlottach getting ready to take flowers from the restaurant’s plants. While the video does not show her actually cutting the flowers, the next part shows her bucket filled with fresh flowers. Then it cuts to photos of the flower displays at her wedding. She wrote “Ballin’ on a McBudget” with the post and added hashtags about budget wedding tips and DIY ideas.

Most viewers have been supportive, with many other brides liking the creative money-saving idea. One person said that cutting bushes and trees is actually good for the plants, saying that she was “doing them a favor.” Another user joked about their own way of saving money, saying they got landscaping rocks from a Target parking lot.

Wedding costs keep going up for couples

Planning a wedding has become very expensive for couples around the country. From renting a venue and paying for food to getting music and covering travel costs, the bills pile up fast. This is even before paying for rings, wedding dresses, and suits. Because of these high costs, many couples have been looking for cheaper ways to have their weddings.

To cut down on costs, couples have been finding different options for their weddings. Many are picking smaller places instead of big reception halls, buying used wedding dresses, and making their own invitations. But flowers are usually a big cost that is hard to avoid, no matter how smart couples try to be with their money.

Schlottach’s method is just one example of how couples today are changing the way they think about wedding costs. The TikTok community has been excited about these new ideas, though some viewers wondered if taking plants from business properties might be against the law. One person said the practice might be illegal depending on the state, while another person said that in Nashville, people cut hydrangeas out in the open without any problems.

This is not the first time McDonald’s has been part of wedding celebrations on social media. In August 2024, two former McDonald’s workers had a Golden Arches-themed wedding that also got attention on TikTok. The trend shows how couples are more willing to move away from tradition and try personal, budget-friendly options for their big day.

While some people may judge these unusual choices, others have been supportive, like when a groom-to-be came up with the perfect wedding gift for his TikTok-obsessed bride, proving that thoughtful actions matter more than expensive traditions. Not everyone on social media is nice about wedding moments, as shown when a TikToker made fun of what she called a “cringe” public proposal, though the bride-to-be handled it well.
