Trump thinks if they manage to terminate the filibuster, they could get “EVERYTHING approved, like no Congress in History.” That’s a huge claim, but it makes sense why he’d push for it if he wants to see major policy wins now.

He even detailed the specific laws he wants to push through once the 60-vote threshold is gone. This includes protecting gun laws, changing election legislation, and passing laws that outlaw transgender women from competing in women’s sports. These are high-stakes, base-energizing issues, and he knows they stand no chance under the current rules. If you’re looking for major, quick legislative victories, eliminating the filibuster is definitely the fastest route.

The president also has a major fear factor he’s pushing: Democrats are going to do it anyway. He insists that if the Democrats manage to retake the Senate majority, they will definitely eliminate the filibuster so they can pass massive changes.
