Driver causes school bus full of children to flip onto its roof in horrifying accident. What they did next is even worse

Those are kids, how can they do that?

A school bus carrying students in Texas flipped completely onto its roof this week after the driver swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle. However, the worst part of this horrifying incident is that the driver who caused the crash never even stopped.

The shocking accident happened at around 7:30 AM local time, in Iola, Texas, on FM 244. The bus belonged to the Iola Independent School District (ISD). You’d think a crash this major would involve serious injuries, but thankfully, People confirmed that everyone involved sustained only minor injuries. Four people were rushed to the hospital for evaluation: the bus driver, an aide, and two students who were on board at the time.

This terrifying event was allegedly caused by a white SUV that entered the bus’s lane. According to statements given to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the bus driver had to swerve hard to the right to avoid a head-on collision. That immediate reaction sent the bus off the road and straight into a ditch, causing it to roll over onto its roof.

School bus was abandoned by driver who caused a wreck

This is absolutely awful for the students and staff involved, but the sheer lack of humanity shown by the white SUV driver is infuriating. That driver allegedly failed to stop after forcing the bus off the road and fled the scene.

Sergeant Justin Ruiz with the Texas Department of Public Safety shed light on the investigation, confirming the bus driver’s account. He said, “It is said that there is a possible involved white SUV that the driver of the bus drivers stated may have come into her lane so she swerved to the right a little bit, went into the ditch here, and then rolled over.”

I’m genuinely relieved that the injuries were minor. Imagine being a parent getting that call; it’s every family’s worst nightmare. While only some injuries happened, things definitely could have been worse.

They noted that the driver and students were taken to the hospital “as a precaution for further evaluation,” and they made sure that all the families of the students on the bus were contacted directly. The school district also expressed immense gratitude for the fast response from emergency personnel and school staff who helped manage the situation.

While the DPS has since cleared the wreckage from the highway, local outlets noted that the gashes in the dirt and grass clearly show the path the bus took when it rolled over. It must have looked absolutely catastrophic.

A nearby Grimes County resident, Scott Kelley, spoke about his concern upon seeing the scene. It sounds like he immediately understood the gravity of the situation. Kelley told KXXV-TV, “Well, honestly, I was like, ‘God, I hope everyone’s OK,’ cause it looks major and that’s the last thing you want is to, for someone’s safety or someone to be critically injured or hurt or whatever.” He added that he was ultimately grateful that no one was seriously injured, saying, “I’m just grateful that no one had gotten major hurt or anything, and that’s the main thing.”

Right now, DPS is actively investigating the incident and working hard to track down the white SUV that didn’t stop. It’s a serious crime to leave the scene of an accident, especially one involving a school bus full of kids. You can bet the troopers are going to be using every resource available to find that driver. Let’s hope justice is served quickly in this case; forcing a crash and fleeing should carry some serious consequences.
