It’s a fantastic time to be a criminal. Sure, you might have been found guilty of heinous acts after a jury of your peers was shown incontrovertible evidence of your guilt and a judge threw the book at you. You could appeal the sentence, but that might take years!
It’s much quicker to grovel before Donald Trump and cook up some explanation of how you’re a political prisoner – a victim of that mean ol’ Joe Biden! By the time you’ve wiped the slobber off your jaw, the ink will be drying on an official pardon.
Well, that’s if you’ve been convicted of federal crimes. If you have a state-level conviction, you’ll need to plead your case to the governor. But, predictably, Trump is far too dumb to know that.
Enter Tina Peters, a former Colorado County Clerk who has the distinction of being the only person convicted of criminal charges related to tampering with election machines. The problem is, she was tampering with the machines to benefit Trump.
“You are no hero. You’re a charlatan”
Tina Peters is going nowhere.

She's a convicted criminal found guilty by a jury of her peers of state crimes.
Trump has as much power to pardon her as he does to confer knighthoods, which is to say, none at all.
For all y'all pocket-Constitution bros, this one should be easy… pic.twitter.com/16NLHLz5M5
Yup, Peters swallowed Trump’s election-stealing garbage hook, line, and sinker, and took it upon herself to violate state laws and election security protocols by shutting off surveillance cameras and allowing QAnon conspiracy nut Conan Hayes to screw around with the machines and access and publish sensitive information.
Peters was rapidly caught, indicted, and convicted on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges. She was sentenced to nine years in prison, with the judge telling her:
“You are no hero. You’re a charlatan who used, and is still using, your prior position in office to peddle a snake oil that’s been proven to be junk time and time again.”
I presume Trump can only empathize with a lying snake-oil peddling “charlatan.” And now he’s issued this “pardon”, which does absolutely nothing and has no legal ramifications whatsoever. The only person who can pardon Peters is Colorado Governor Jared Polis, who has already said a big fat “no” to a Trump request to transfer Peters from state to federal custody and is refusing to pardon her.
An infuriated Trump is vowing revenge on the state of Colorado for not letting this moronic criminal walk the streets any time soon. Once again, we can only underline how amusing and ironic it is that Trump has spent years railing against sinister actors tampering with election machines, only to expend so much effort freeing the one person who objectively actually did that.
