Hotel staff in China were met with an unbelievable sight when they finally entered the room of a guest who had stayed there for two full years. This wasn’t just a messy room; the staff were absolutely stunned by the mountains of garbage left behind by the professional gamer who had checked out suddenly.
The situation went down at an esports hotel in Changchun, which is the capital of Jilin Province in northeastern China. These kinds of specialized hotels are specifically set up for serious, dedicated gamers. They give you top-tier gear, dedicated gaming chairs, and lightning-fast internet connectivity. While that sounds like a dream setup for an extended session, this particular guest took “extended” to an entirely new, and frankly, disgusting level.
The guest is believed to have checked in for an uninterrupted, two-year gaming session. Staff shared video clips after the discovery, showing the incredible mess that awaited them. We’re talking about rubbish stacked nearly three and a half feet high in some parts of the bedroom. Piles and piles of takeaway containers, food wrappers, and general trash covered the floor. It looks like he just dropped everything where he finished eating it, according to Express.
How did he survive so long?
The scale of the filth is hard to grasp. The two gaming chairs and the main table were almost completely buried under the trash. If that wasn’t bad enough, the small bathroom was stacked high with used toilet paper, and the sink area was covered in grime and dirt. You can tell this mess had been accumulating for the entire two years he was there, making the environment pretty awful.
Because the guest was so focused on gaming, staff members said that the man was rarely, if ever, seen outside his room during the entire stay. Some workers admitted they didn’t even know what the guest looked like, which is an incredible level of isolation for someone staying that long.
The guest’s two years of uninterrupted play came to an end recently when he checked out suddenly on December 12. It’s unclear exactly why he left without notice, but the hotel suspects he may have run into financial troubles right before departing. He still owes the hotel more than 10 days of unpaid fees, which totals around CNY 2,700, or about $383.
Getting the room back to normal was a mammoth task for the hotel. It took cleaning teams a solid three days just to clear out the sheer volume of trash and sanitize the area. That’s a huge amount of labor and time. However, being a pro gamer takes time, and he likely wanted to make money from it.
Unfortunately, the damage isn’t just cosmetic. The room sustained visible damage from the neglect and will need serious renovation work before it can be offered to another guest. This is absolutely awful for the hotel’s bottom line, as they’ll now have to eat the cost of the cleanup and the repairs, plus the revenue lost while the room is out of commission.
Despite the shocking discovery and the financial loss, hotel bosses have decided not to report the incident to the police. They also aren’t planning to pursue responsibility legally right now. They added that they couldn’t disclose the guest’s details anyway because of privacy rules. It seems like they just wanted to get the room cleaned and move on from this unbelievably messy situation.
