Bill Clinton‘s team is extremely angry after the White House released government files on Friday. The release included photos of Clinton with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. One photo shows Clinton in an underground pool with Maxwell and a young woman whose face is hidden. Another picture shows him at dinner with Epstein and Mick Jagger.
According to The Guardian, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared the pool photo on X with the caption “Oh my!” and a shocked emoji. White House communications director Steven Cheung also posted about it, writing “Slick Willy! @BillClinton just chillin, without a care in the world. Little did he know….”
Clinton’s spokesperson Angel Ureña quickly responded with a strong statement on X. He pushed back against claims that the files were released late Friday to protect Clinton. Ureña said the White House is actually trying to shield themselves from what comes next or what they’ll hide forever.
Clinton’s team draws a clear line on who knew what
Ureña said the White House can release as many old photos as they want, but this isn’t about Bill Clinton and never will be. He made a clear distinction between two groups of people. The first group knew nothing and stopped contact with Epstein before his crimes became public. The second group kept relationships with him after. Ureña stated they’re in the first group.
Clinton has always said he cut ties with Epstein around 2005. This was before Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor in Florida. Ureña said no amount of stalling by the second group will change the facts. He added that everyone expects answers and not scapegoats from this scandal.
President Trump has used the Epstein scandal to attack Democrats. He’s repeatedly called for investigations into Epstein’s relationship with Bill Clinton. This is part of his campaign to connect the Epstein scandal mainly to Democrats. Clinton’s past controversies have often been a target for political opponents.
Ureña’s statement mentioned that White House chief of staff Susie Wiles previously said Trump was wrong about Clinton. Wiles acknowledged that Clinton never went to Epstein’s Caribbean island, despite Trump’s repeated claims.
While Clinton has never been formally accused of wrongdoing with Epstein, they did have a relationship. Epstein visited the White House at least 17 times during Clinton’s early presidency. After leaving office in 2001, Clinton traveled on Epstein’s private jet for trips to Asia and Africa. Those looking at Clinton’s past presidential scandals often bring up various controversies from his time in office.
The timing matters because Bill and Hillary Clinton must give depositions to the House oversight committee about their Epstein ties. These depositions are scheduled for January 13 and 14. Committee chair James Comer has threatened contempt proceedings if they don’t show up on those dates.
