Border Czar Tom Homan has made a controversial promise to punish anyone who interferes with ICE agents with an unhinged and wholly unconstitutional plan to essentially dox anyone who steps out of line.
Homan’s plan is in response to the growing tensions between protesters and ICE agents that have seen violence break out in several recent incidents. While there have been a few cases of protesters physically attacking the federal officers, by far the majority of the violence is originating from ICE agents rather than the protesters. People who are against ICE usually resort to trying to prevent them from kidnapping people, but apparently that’s too far for Tom Homan.
In an appearance on Fox News, the border czar told the host that, while people had a right to protest, if they attempted to interfere with ICE activities they would face some terrifying consequences that go beyond the law.
Homan explained that he is pushing for a database of people who have been or will be arrested for standing against ICE. This database would be public and any arrests would be forwarded to the individual’s place of work, or school, or anything that could potentially make their life harder. As Homan says to the Fox News host, “We’re gonna make ‘em famous.”
Tom Homan’s plan is dangerous
Online, people have labeled it as state-sponsored doxxing. The government is essentially giving out information on these people that not only could ruin their future prospects but also put their lives in danger. Being punished by the law is one thing, but this goes beyond that, it shows just how terrifyingly fascist the U.S. is quickly becoming, where standing up to ICE agents is enough to get your personal details put online by your own government for any crazy person to see.
On X many wrote defiant messages stating that Homan’s threats didn’t scare them, “Go ahead, turn them into f—ing heros. Most of the country is done with their stupid s–t.” wrote one individual. “[T]his is just going to radicalize more of us,” added another.
And now that politicians are telling ICE agents they have “absolute immunity” what’s to stop them from doing as they please? Then, if someone fights back, they get arrested and end up on Homan’s registry to be further tormented afterwards.
Of course, this administration will bend over backwards to protect the agents, regardless of whether they are in the right or not. The response to the death of Renee Good has shown just how low Donald Trump and his cabinet will go to defend what many would label a blatant execution of an innocent civilian.
What Homan and the government are essentially doing is metaphorically tying people’s hands behind their backs while handing ICE more power to torment and bully people as they please.
