Donald Trump doesn’t even bother to shy away from the dictator accusations anymore, in fact, he’s practically embracing the label. In his most recent appearance at the World Economic Forum the U.S. president mocked his detractors who have called him a dictator, saying, “sometimes you need a dictator.”
Unsurprisingly, footage of the speech is already going viral online as those who have been trying to warn the rest of the world that Trump is indeed a tyrant have their “told you so” moment.
This isn’t the first time the U.S. president has seemingly embraced the dictatorial mindset. Late last year he demanded that his cabinet behave like Chinese President Xi Jinping’s, “I’ve never seen men so scared in their lives…JD doesn’t behave like that. JD butts into conversations.”
Trump’s defenders may see his latest statement as a joke but deep down there’s truth in accusing the president of being a dictator. His use of force and public death threats against his critics are also trademarks of a dictator. What’s more, he’s also talked at length about running for a third term, something which is completely against the constitution and yet still, Trump’s loyal supporters don’t seem to care.
Trump’s mask is coming off
It seems with each passing day Donald Trump gets more and more comfortable revealing himself and his intentions to the whole world. The worst part is that nobody is doing anything about it, no impeachment or reprimand for openly talking like a dictator.
On X people vented their frustrations, calling for laws to be brought in to prevent this kind of behavior from presidents in the future. “we need to, if we get out of this, set some sort of separate law about removing a President from office if he shows literal brain deterioration in testing.” suggested one person. “This is exactly the stuff people warned about and somehow it still gets brushed off.” added a second.
It seems people are stuck somewhere between laughing off the president’s delusional statements and being horrified by the things he says. But this should not be brushed off as yet another case of Trump saying something out of pocket. We do not need a dictator leading the U.S. and we certainly don’t want that dictator to be Donald Trump.
The frustration from many Americans and the rest of the world is palpable everywhere you look. While the Trump administration may lie and try to get people to ignore their own eyes, Donald Trump is showing us all who he really is and it’s important not to look away.
