First Lady Melania Trump was put in an uncomfortable position during a White House event. A reporter asked her about Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted sex trafficker, and the special treatment she is reportedly getting in prison. The question came up during a news briefing where Mrs. Trump was appearing with freed American-Israeli hostages.
According to People, when the reporter brought up the “special treatment” Maxwell is said to be receiving and asked why survivors are demanding her move to a high-security prison, Mrs. Trump quickly shut down the question. She said the event had one purpose only and told the reporter, “We are here celebrating the release and the life of these two incredible people, so let’s honor that.”
Classic Trump-style deflection? At least, she didn’t call the reporter names or lament why they weren’t smiling while talking about a pedophile. Those are the duties of her dear husband.
The event was meant to honor Keith Siegel and his wife Aviva. Keith was held captive in Gaza for more than 480 days after being taken from his home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza during the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023. Aviva was also captured but was released during a temporary cease-fire in November 2023.
Survivors demand answers about Maxwell’s prison conditions
Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence at the low-security Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas. She was convicted in 2021 for sex trafficking because of her role in grooming victims for Jeffrey Epstein. Survivors and the public are pushing for answers about how she is being treated in prison.
The calls for her transfer to a different prison got louder after a whistleblower made shocking claims about the special perks she is getting. Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee brought up this information. They claim that prison staff are treating her exceptionally well, waiting on her “hand and foot.”
The whistleblower said Maxwell is getting meals that are “customized and prepared by federal prison camp staff and then personally delivered to her in her cell by longtime federal employees.” The whistleblower also claimed she was allowed to use recreation areas after regular hours.
One of the strangest claims involves a service dog. An inmate who trains puppies was reportedly told to give one to Maxwell so she could “play with the puppy, even though neither inmates nor staff are ordinarily allowed to pet the service dogs in training.” Her visitors also reportedly get a “special cordoned off area” for arrival with snacks and refreshments.
Maxwell and Epstein were once close to President Trump and the First Lady. In February 2000, the four of them were photographed together at the Mar-a-Lago club. An Epstein insider recently shared how the Trumps actually met, and the story differs from what has been publicly told.
It was previously reported that Maxwell had been seeking a commutation of her sentence from President Trump. When reporters recently asked Trump about Epstein survivors seeking answers, his response focused on something entirely different – why the female reporter didn’t smile at him.
