The FBI has finished its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. The agency found that the late financier sexually abused underage girls, but they did not find proof that he ran a larger sex trafficking network for powerful people. The finding comes from an internal review of Justice Department records. While investigators gathered strong evidence that Epstein abused minors, they found little proof of a wider criminal operation involving his wealthy friends.
Attorney General Pam Bondi made public statements in early 2025 that now appear to contradict the FBI’s internal findings. In February 2025, Bondi said Epstein’s “client list” was “sitting on my desk right now.” She later claimed the FBI was reviewing “tens of thousands of videos” showing Epstein “with children or child porn.”
According to The Independent, internal FBI emails tell a different story. FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate asked his team in late 2024 whether a “client list” actually existed. The case agent confirmed on December 31, 2024, that there was no such list. Another FBI supervisor wrote on February 19, 2025, just two days before Bondi’s public statement, that investigators “did not locate such a list during the course of the investigation.”
FBI records show no client list or incriminating videos were found
The FBI investigation was extensive. Agents spent years reviewing Epstein’s bank records and emails, searching his properties in New York, Florida, and the Virgin Islands, and interviewing many victims. They found payments Epstein made to people in academia, finance, and diplomacy, but these payments showed no links to criminal activity. The case has sparked widespread speculation online, with rumors linking various celebrities to Epstein causing controversy.
Investigators took many videos and photos from Epstein’s devices and homes. However, a prosecutor wrote in a 2025 memo that these materials did not show victims being abused or involve anyone else in his crimes. Maurene Comey, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, wrote in an email that if videos showing abuse or implicating other people existed, “We did not, however, locate any such videos.”
The investigation looked closely at claims made by Virginia Roberts Giuffre. She accused Epstein of forcing her to have sexual encounters with powerful men, including Britain’s former Prince Andrew. Investigators confirmed that Giuffre was sexually abused by Epstein, but they could not verify her trafficking claims involving other men. Many public figures have faced false accusations, including Tony Hawk addressing misinformation about Epstein.
Two other Epstein victims who Giuffre said were also “lent out” to powerful men told investigators this never happened to them. A 2019 internal memo stated, “No other victim has described being expressly directed by either Maxwell or Epstein to engage in sexual activity with other men.” Investigators also noted that Giuffre gave changing accounts and admitted writing a partly fictional memoir with inaccurate details.
