Customer sees local Wendy’s struggling badly, so he steps up with a heroic act that has the internet gushing how lucky his wife is

The hero Wendy needed.

A Tennessee man recently became an unexpected hero at his local Wendy’s when he stepped behind the counter to help overwhelmed staff get orders out the door. Tyler Johnston, who used to work for the fast-food chain, jumped in after an employee jokingly asked for his assistance, turning a routine meal into a TikTok viral sensation.

It all started when Johnston, his wife Kalynn Smotherman, and a friend decided to grab a bite at Wendy’s. The dining experience itself was pretty standard, but things took a sharp turn after they finished eating. According to Smotherman’s video (@secret_account6372), “An employee that Tyler had mentioned his previous work history at Wendy’s to, approached us, and jokingly asked, ‘Can you throw on a uniform and help us?’”

According to Newsweek, the restaurant was in a serious bind. Smotherman described the scene: “By that point, there were 20 DoorDash orders that needed to go out and a queue that wrapped around the building.” Seeing the crunch, Tyler didn’t hesitate. He decided, “why not,” and followed the employee into the kitchen, quickly getting to work.

“Girl let us know when the wedding is “

Working in fast food is a pretty common experience for a lot of us. Back in 2023, McDonald’s actually claimed that about 13.7 percent of Americans have worked for them at some point. That’s roughly one in eight people, and that’s just one chain! So, it’s not too surprising that Tyler had some experience under his belt, which clearly came in handy that night.

Smotherman captured her husband’s impromptu shift on camera and captioned it simply: “pov: you go to Wendy’s & they slammed but ur man used to work for them 4 years ago.” The internet absolutely loved it, with the video racking up more than 9.5 million views. One user wrote, “Damn lowkey I hope u marry him,” while another joked, “Girl, just let us know when the wedding is.”

Even Wendy’s themselves got in on the action, leaving comments like, “It’s like he never left.” Johnston spent about 30 minutes helping out, and Smotherman said, “everyone loved him” that night.

Smotherman explained her motivation for sharing the video, saying, “I shared this post to give people a laugh,” and she believes the post gained so much traction “due to the side of good humanity being shown and good patient men are out there to help.” She remarked that Tyler’s actions ” made me feel as if I was with the right man, but it also wasn’t shocking; it’s the kind of man he just is.”

Normally, we see stories of customers so rude that the restaurant staff will refuse to serve them. Then there are the customers who will try to scam the restaurant. So, it is genuinely awesome to see a wholesome story of a customer who just gets up and helps instead.
