In a jaw-dropping twist, Marjorie Taylor Greene invokes 25th Amendment to stop Donald Trump’s mass extinction ‘madness’

Enough is enough.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former U.S. Representative, has publicly called for President Donald Trump‘s removal from office using the 25th Amendment. This came after Trump threatened to attack civilian infrastructure in Iran, including power plants and bridges. Greene, once one of Trump’s strongest supporters, called his rhetoric “evil and madness” and warned it could lead to a mass extinction event.

Trump made his threat in a Truth Social post, warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again” if Iran did not meet his 8:00 PM EST deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil shipping channel in the Persian Gulf. According to The Hill, Greene responded quickly on X, writing, “25TH AMENDMENT!!! Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization.”

Over the weekend, Trump also posted an expletive-filled message on Truth Social, saying, “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F—in’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”

Multiple lawmakers, both inside and outside the Republican party, are now calling for Trump’s removal

Greene criticized Trump for sharing this post on Easter, saying he had “gone insane,” and added, “Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshipping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness. I know all of you and him and he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit.”

According to Inquisitr News, other lawmakers have also called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked. Representative Mark Pocan, a Democrat from Wisconsin, wrote on X, “This is stuff you’d wouldn’t even see from Putin, let alone the American president. Isn’t it time for the 25th amendment?”

Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett stated, “Targeting civilians would, in fact, be a war crime. This man is deranged, unstable, and unfit to lead. Republicans need to find their backbone, rein him in, and end this reckless war before more innocent lives are lost.” Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib wrote, “After bombing a school and massacring young girls, the war criminal in the White House is threatening genocide. It’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment.”

Commentator Candace Owens also reacted, writing, “The 25th amendment needs to be invoked. He is a genocidal lunatic. Our Congress and military need to intervene.” The 25th Amendment is the constitutional process for presidential succession.

It states that if the Vice President and a majority of Cabinet members send a written declaration to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House, saying the President is unable to carry out his duties, the Vice President immediately becomes Acting President.

Questions have also been raised about who profits from the ongoing Iran conflict, with significant financial movements reported just before the war began. If Trump were to challenge the 25th Amendment declaration, he would need to send his own written statement to the same officials, arguing that no such inability exists.

Greene has been critical of the U.S. military operation in Iran since the U.S. and Israel launched initial strikes in late February. She has argued the decision was a “betrayal” of Trump’s 2024 campaign promises. “The American people did not vote for this,” Greene said on March 16. “I went to countless rallies all over the country for President Trump… and we said on every single rally stage, ‘No more foreign wars, no more regime change.'”

Internationally, a spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that attacks on civilian infrastructure are banned under international law. Even within the Republican Party, some members have expressed concern. Senator Ron Johnson said, “I am hoping and praying that President Trump is, that this really is bluster. I do not want to see us start blowing up civilian infrastructure. We are not at war with the Iranian people.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer wrote on X, “This is an extremely sick person. Each Republican who refuses to join us in voting against this wanton war of choice owns every consequence of whatever the hell this is.”

While aides have suggested the conflict could end soon, Trump has continued to threaten strikes on Iranian power plants and bridges, publicly using profanity on Truth Social to make his point. Greene’s call comes just before a special election runoff in her former Georgia district, where Republican Clay Fuller is running against Democrat Shawn Harris. Trump endorsed Fuller in February, while Harris has support from Senator Raphael Warnock and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report still rates the district as solidly Republican.

Despite the widespread reaction, there is currently no sign that any Cabinet member is ready to move forward with invoking the 25th Amendment. The U.S. and Iran have reached a two-week ceasefire agreement on Tuesday. While it will give Donald Trump some political relief, the pressure will intensify if the conflict resumes later.
