Megyn Kelly said she would remain a loyal Republican voter even if President Donald Trump launched a nuclear strike against another country. She made this comment just hours before Trump issued a threat of an all-out assault on Iran. Her remarks came during Monday’s episode of The Megyn Kelly Show.
During the show, the former Fox News host called Democrats a “smug” and “arrogant” party. She told conservative journalist Emily Jashinsky that she “could never vote for” a left-leaning politician, pointing to Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin’s criticisms of War Secretary Pete Hegseth as one reason. “They’re crazy,” Kelly said.
According to The NY Post, Kelly then went further, saying, “I mean, honestly, Trump could drop a nuke and I’d still vote Republican over those people.” She added, “What [Democrats] want to do is nuke our own country. You know, it’s like the open border, what they’re doing to children, all that stuff is still – they would do it if put back in power. I think most Republicans know that.”
Kelly’s comments came as Trump issued serious threats against Iran
Her remarks came just hours before Trump, on Tuesday morning, threatened to target Iran’s bridges and power plants. He also warned that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran failed to meet his 8 PM deadline to cut a ceasefire deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. For the past 40 days, Iran had reportedly been sending drones and missiles into the Strait, which is a key global trade route that carries roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply.
However, about 90 minutes before his deadline, Trump announced a two-week pause on military strikes. He posted on Truth Social: “This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE! The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East.”
Trump added, “We received a 10 point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate. Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and consummated.”
Iran’s foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, later confirmed that Tehran would allow passage through the Strait of Hormuz for the next two weeks, but under Iranian military management. Meanwhile, Iran has been pushing its own version of US rescue operations, with social media helping that narrative spread quickly.
The Iran War, however, has fractured Trump’s loyal base. Kelly herself has criticized the president for his role in the war, and her ex-Fox News colleague, Tucker Calrson have also been in a public dispute with President Trump.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carlson criticized Trump’s Easter morning social media post, in which Trump had threatened to strike Iran’s energy infrastructure and written, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.” Trump responded by calling Carlson “a low-IQ person who has absolutely no idea what’s going on,” and added, “He calls me all the time; I don’t respond to his calls. I don’t deal with him. I like dealing with smart people, not fools.”
On his video podcast, Carlson called Trump’s Easter post “vile on every level” and questioned the scope of presidential authority implied in the threat. He also urged White House staff to resign rather than carry out orders they view as dangerous. “Those people who are in direct contact with the president need to say, ‘No, I’ll resign. I’ll do whatever I can legally to stop this, because this is insane. If you give the order, I’m not carrying it out. Figure out the codes on the football yourself,'” Carlson said.
He even suggested Trump could be the Antichrist, invoking Christian eschatology in his argument. As the conflict continues to escalate, reports indicate that US troops are being killed and injured in the Iran war, with the Pentagon accused of hiding the true toll.
This tension between Carlson and Trump is not entirely new. During the Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit against Fox News, filings showed Carlson had privately texted in 2021 that he “passionately” hated Trump and described him as a “demonic force.” The two had appeared to reconcile in 2023, but Carlson has since become a contrarian voice within conservative circles, at times breaking with Trump and aligning with figures like Candace Owens and Megyn Kelly.
