Tucker Carlson just called Trump a “slave” who “can’t make his own decisions — and MAGA can no longer pretend everything’s fine

Even the true believers are jumping ship.

Who would’ve thought that building an entire political movement around one man’s ego would cause chaos when the man himself inevitably became the problem?

That’s the question the MAGA faithful find themselves wondering these days, stuck with a president who went back on nearly every promise he made on the campaign trail — not least of which was the lie that Trump wouldn’t push the United States into another “forever war” in the Middle East.

This week, Tucker Carlson — former Fox News host, former Trump superfan, former person who once stood at the Republican National Convention and declared Donald Trump had transcended mere nominee status to become “the leader of a nation” — appeared on Newsmax to describe that same leader as a “slave.”

“I’ve always liked Trump and still feel sorry for him, as I do for all slaves,” Carlson said. “He’s hemmed in by other forces. He can’t make his own decisions. It’s awful to watch.”

Carlson declined to specify who exactly is pulling the strings, though he’d already offered a hint in a morning note published the same day, where he floated that Israel might be blackmailing the president.

In this particular instance, Trump had fired first. In a Truth Social post, the president lumped Carlson together with Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones and declared they all shared “one thing in common, Low IQs,” adding: “They’re stupid people, they know it, their families know it, and everyone else knows it, too!” The post went on for quite a bit, as it always does.

All of this signals an irreparable rift in MAGA, one that might very well end up with a hard choice for the GOP: Either leave Trump behind or go down with this sinking ship.

How long until other zealous MAGA crusaders turn on Trump?

The fact that so many MAGA influencers have been openly criticizing Trump over his controversial policies and the war against Iran implies a certain taboo has finally been shattered: Trump is not untouchable or unquestionable, and he certainly isn’t above the law.

I thought I’d never see the day when Marjorie Taylor Greene — Trump’s most unhinged cheerleader — became one of his loudest critics. And now that people like Carlson and Jones have joined the chorus, many other ardent MAGA enthusiasts will feel compelled to leave the ranks, or at the very least, reexamine where exactly their loyalties lie; to America, or to the man who has undermined the Constitution at every turn?

MAGA was always a loyalty test disguised as a political movement. The problem with loyalty tests is that eventually, someone fails them. This week, it was Tucker Carlson. And something tells us he won’t be the last.
