Woman spends $700 on parking lot steaks feeling like a genius. Then she opens TikTok, reads the comments, and scrambles back for a refund

Instant regret.

A woman named America (@americagracee) bought $700 worth of meat from a truck parked in a parking lot, thinking she had found a great deal. She shared the experience in a TikTok video that has since gone viral. The video showed how what seemed like a bargain quickly turned into a costly mistake.

According to Brobible, the deal was advertised as “20 for $39,” which sounded like a good offer at first. But as America and her partner loaded up their car, the salesperson kept pushing them to buy more and more. They were convinced to keep adding to their purchase, and by the end, they had spent a total of $700 on the meat.

When they got home, America started going through the TikTok comments, and that is when things took a turn. Her partner Brandon tried to brush it off, saying, “Everyone’s saying this meat sucks.” America herself said, “Don’t read the comments, I don’t wanna know,” but she kept reading anyway. What she found left them both shocked.

Parking lot meat scams are more common than most people realize, and the warning signs are easy to miss in the moment

Commenters had bought from the same truck before and were not happy with what they received. One person wrote that the steaks were “paper thin and taste like rubber,” and another said they were “unusable” and “not worth the money.” Many buyers also pointed out that some steaks can weigh as little as three ounces, making the deal far worse than it appears on the surface.

After going through a long and difficult process, America and her partner managed to get their money back. The company selling the meat is called Backyard Butchers, and it holds an F rating from the Better Business Bureau. The poor rating lines up with the many complaints people have shared online about the quality of their products, and it is a clear sign that this company has a long history of unhappy customers.

Buying meat from parking lots is not a new problem, and many people across the country have reported falling for the same kind of offer. The steaks sold this way are often compared unfavorably even to regular hamburger meat, with buyers saying they are small, thin, and low quality. The low price point makes the offer look attractive, but the reality is very different once you get home and actually cook the meat, per WCPO 9.

America’s story is a clear example of how easy it is to get swept up in what looks like a great deal. In fact, a viral TikTok trend that forces life reflection has been pushing millions of people to slow down and think more carefully before making big decisions. The salesperson kept pushing her and her partner to buy more, and they went along with it without stopping to look into the product first.

A quick online search would have shown them the many complaints tied to this type of sale. The key takeaway from this story is simple: if someone is selling meat out of a truck in a parking lot, it is worth being very careful. The excitement of a seemingly great deal can cloud your judgment quickly, especially when a pushy salesperson is involved. Sticking to well-known butchers or trusted grocery stores is a much safer option when it comes to buying meat.

And before spending a large amount of money on any deal that seems too good to be true, taking a few minutes to do some research can save a lot of trouble later. TikTok has become a go-to platform for sharing consumer experiences like this, and knowing how to use TikTok effectively can help you stay informed and avoid similar mistakes.
