Florida man spots suspicious bag floating off the shore of Lauderdale Beach, what he found inside was life-changing

A man who was enjoying a sunny day on the white sands of Fort Lauderdale Beach in Florida had his whole day turned on its head after noticing a suspicious bag being thrown about by the ocean waves. Upon further investigation the man quickly discovered that the bag contained millions of dollars in cash.

A viral video recorded and shared online by X account “@mymixtapez” shows the dramatic moment the unknown man dragged the carryall with wads of cash tumbling out onto the beach from the shore. Others show up to help the man pull what must have been quite the hefty bag onto the beach. 

While the man may have had the opportunity to change his life with all that money there was a strong likelihood that the cash had not been obtained through legal means. A bag full of money floating in the ocean doesn’t exactly scream “honest days work.”

Police were immediately contacted

Instead of keeping the cash the man did the right thing and contacted the authorities to inform them of his discovery. The video shared on X shows the cops on the beach some time after the initial discovery. While some may have been tempted to make off with the money, most on X commended the man for his honesty. “The self-control here deserves its own medal,” wrote one person.

However, not everyone agreed, plenty mocked the man for choosing to surrender such a large amount of money, “this dude needs a foot up his ass for how dumb he is.” wrote one, “Finders keepers is the game I would have played,” another agreed. But then again, some suggested that it was a wise move considering the cash may well have been cartel money which could have ended up putting the man’s life at risk had he taken it.

In fact, turning the money in was probably the smartest move he could have made considering all the witnesses on the beach. Even if it wasn’t money related to a crime, he would have likely been caught by police anyway due to the amount of witnesses and the fact that he was caught on camera. Making off with all that money was never a realistic option in the first place.

Some also questioned the authenticity of the video with one person confirming with Grok that, so far, there have been no credible police reports of millions of dollars being handed in to Fort Lauderdale police. Whatever was in that bag, it was probably the right call to get the authorities involved.
