A recent TikTok post by CassDamm just went viral, hitting more than 14 million views thanks to her interesting story. It all started with her college paper, and then came her imprisoned uncle, and a connection to a self-proclaimed cannibal.
TikToker CassDamm stated that she wanted to add a unique edge to her academic work. As she explained in the post, “when I was in college, I was writing a paper on cannibalism, and I really wanted to interview a real cannibal for this paper because I thought it would make my paper stand out. It would give it that extra pizzazz, right?” However, finding a source for such a niche topic wasn’t easy.
She noted, “I was really struggling to find a cannibal who would allow me to interview them and put their name on my paper, because I needed to cite my sources. Apparently, all the cannibals out there don’t want people knowing that they’re indulging in human meat, right?” Her solution came when she called her uncle, who was in prison. “Oh, I actually know a cannibal in here. I’ll hook you up with him, and you can interview him. And I was like, oh, my gosh, that’s so perfect.”
Enter Kevin
“So one day, I get a call from this guy named Kevin, and he lets me interview him. He gives me all the details of his life, literally all the information that I need and more to get a perfect score on my paper.” As she then narrated, the story didn’t end there, as her uncle was released not long after.
CassDamm told us, “A couple of months later, my uncle ends up getting out of prison. And like, a month after that, I get a new friend request on Facebook. I look at it, and what do you know? It’s Kevin the cannibal.”
“And I had to accept, because, honestly, I’ve made worse choices in life.” She noted she even felt a weird sense of security based on their previous conversation. “Also, when I interviewed him, he told me he doesn’t like the taste of tattoos. And I’m like 85% covered in tattoos, so I knew that I was gonna be safe.”
Now, Kevin is a regular presence on her social media feed, “posting the most out-of-pocket stuff. And today he posted a picture of him[self] in a tux with a clown mask on, and the background was rainbows and unicorns, and he had the Reading Rainbow theme song playing.”
The TikTok community was stunned by the situation. Riaan Steyn joked, “You call it FB friends list. Kevin calls it a Menu.” Another user, Unpaid Intern, had a specific takeaway: “so tattoos have a taste, that’s interesting.”
Other commenters like rachel corrine asked, “why is Kevin… out?” while AnExtremelyGoofyGooner added, “So your[e] telling us Kevin is just out there.” Some were more focused on the academic side, with chlo • GH5 stating, “As a psychology student I am so very interested in reading your paper! Please publish it if possible!”
Last year, former DHS secretary Kristi Noem shared a story about a cannibal who ate himself. It was debunked earlier this year, but it was one of the stories that triggered a Snopes fact check about the legality of cannibalism in the US. The primary trigger was a rumor that cannibalism is legal in 49 U.S. states. Snopes noted that it was a mixture of truth and falsehood.
Snopes pointed out that, technically, only Idaho has a law explicitly criminalizing cannibalism, but it is effectively impossible to engage in the practice elsewhere. Existing laws regarding homicide, corpse desecration, and the abuse of human remains make it impossible to legally obtain or consume human flesh in any state. Even in Idaho, the law was created in response to specific cases of ritualistic abuse, and the state failed to expand those statutes further.
Fascination with cannibals aside though, some users latched onto the biggest unanswered question. As EV🇵🇸 asked, “Ok but did you get an A?”
