Utah friends play pickleball. Then firefighters arrive after one disappears into the restroom: ‘Is he stuck?’

An afternoon at the pickleball court got complicated.

A group of friends in Utah expected an afternoon of pickleball. Instead, they ended up calling firefighters after one member of the group vanished into a public restroom and did not come back. The unusual rescue unfolded in a TikTok video posted in late June 2026 by creator Queen of Shinanigans (@queenofshanigans). The clip shows how what began as a confusing disappearance ended with an emergency response and plenty of laughter.

According to the video’s text overlay, the group’s friend left to use the restroom during a pickleball outing and “never returned.” The footage begins with someone approaching the restroom, asking a nearby child, “Is he stuck?”

From behind the closed door, the missing friend, identified as Hans, answers, “Yeah.” Another person checks on him by asking, “You okay in there?” Hans replies, “I’m stuck in the toilet.”

Then, one member of the group explains they continued the pickleball game before realizing something was wrong. “We play three games like, where’s Hans?” the person says in the video.

Operation rescue Hans, initiated

As the situation unfolded, other people nearby noticed Hans calling for help. One man explains in the clip, “We just pulled up, we heard some screaming, so we thought, oh, we better check on that.”

The video shows several people attempting to help before firefighters arrive at the scene. The responders eventually free Hans from the restroom, prompting cheers from the group. “Yay!” someone shouts as he steps outside. “He did it!” “He’s alive! He made it!”

In the video’s caption, the creator described the incident as both frightening and funny. “Quite the scare! It was quite the hilarious outcome,” the caption reads. “Also, I can’t forget to mention the kind men that found him and the amazing firemen that came to our rescue!”

The TikTok does not identify the restroom’s exact location or explain what caused the door to jam. The clip shows Hans trapped inside until firefighters opened the door.

Viewers quickly filled the comment section with jokes and their own stories about getting locked inside public restrooms. One commenter admitted they misunderstood the situation at first, writing, “When I heard, ‘I’m stuck in the toilet,’ I thought he meant the actual toilet 😂😂.”

Another viewer pointed out that the outcome could have been much more serious under different circumstances. “Imagine if he was on a walk by himself and this happened in 90° weather and nobody around 😭,” the comment read.

Others said the video confirmed one of their longtime fears. “I always thought this was my irrational fear. Turns out it’s rational lol,” one person wrote.

The incident also sparked discussion about carrying a phone while using public restrooms, particularly when alone. Several viewers said they would be less likely to leave their phones behind after watching the video, although the TikTok does not state whether Hans had a phone with him during the ordeal.
