Missouri woman takes a shower at Planet Fitness before the 4th of July. Then she was shocked: ‘it is locked’

If only gyms could be that empty when open.

Getting locked inside a gym is definitely not the kind of holiday surprise anyone signs up for. Victoria Marie recently shared a video on TikTok that has already racked up over 697K views. It documents the moment she found herself locked in a Planet Fitness on July 4. The Missouri resident had come with a goal of a quick workout, but found a different level of stress.

“So, I am currently in Planet Fitness. I wanted to get a little workout in before the 4th of July festivities,” she tells her viewers. “After I worked out, I took a shower, and I was wondering why it seemed so quiet. Well, I come out, and there’s no one here. The music’s turned off. The TVs are turned off.” As she talks to us, Victoria walks viewers through the silent gym floor. The only thing still on are the lights and fans.

Then she walks us over to something she should have seen. “And I see a sign. Oh, where’d it go? Oh, there it is. Holiday hours.” There printed out, it said, “Planet Fitness will be closing early to celebrate July 4th. Hours: Saturday 7/4 closing at 2 PM.” As she looks at this new information, she sheepishly states, “Definitely didn’t see those. And I go to walk out the door, and it is locked. So I am currently waiting for a key holder to hopefully get here and let me out.”

Someone slipped up by not checking the bathrooms before closing

The internet had a field day with the clip, offering everything from jokes to genuine surprise. One user commented, “totally besides the point but when i say i want the gym to be THIS EMPTY i want it to be this empty.” Another joked, “I would have hit another workout, tanned and did the massage chairs several times.” A third TikToker agreed, writing, “I would be trying the workouts I’m afraid to try with ppl around.”

When someone pointed out that the lights and fans were still running, Victoria responded, “I get the fans but not the lights. They were ready ta gooooo!!!! Lol.” However, in her walkthrough, a few commenters noticed she could have just spun the lock from the inside to exit.

Victoria disagreed, choosing caution, noting, “I didn’t want the alarm to go off or leave their door unlocked. Someone got their quick though.” One user had a sharp take on that, replying, “When you unlock the door and leave, they will get in a much bigger hurry to get there and reset the alarm…”

This has happened before

Earlier this year, a similar incident occurred at a Ross Dress for Less store in Roseville, Michigan. According to FOX 2, a woman was found locked inside the retail store for hours after it had closed for the night. The incident, which was documented by Macomb County Scanner on Facebook, resulted in police being called to the store around 1:45 a.m. Thursday.

In reaction to Victoria being left behind, a user had noted, “It’s the staff’s responsibility to do a final sweep thru to make sure everyone is out. Get that bag girl lol.” Similarly, Marcus Morton, a shopper interviewed by FOX 2, stated, “That’s proper closing procedures not being done. You need to double check sometimes people are sneaky. that’s a closing procedure not being done correctly.”

Another person, Craig Murphy, added, “I would be asking why didn’t you look things have to be checked nooks and crannies can miss things. The door is locked, the lights go out, no one’s here. No one’s helping, no assistance in aisle five. There’s a lot of things that go on that let you know it’s closed.”

Not so long ago, a woman found herself trapped in a PureGym check-in pod. Although in this instance, it was because the gym replaced the staff with ‘robot doors.’ On a different note, a Canadian business locked customers in its store over presumed theft.
