Idaho women take silly photos at the mall, then a security guard threatens to ban them and starts screaming

Silly mall photos turn into security showdown.

A woman and her girlfriend say a security officer at Grand Teton Mall in Idaho Falls threatened to ban them and later yelled at them after he saw them taking pictures together, according to a video posted to TikTok. The woman, identified on TikTok as Alyssa (@alyssa.bratcher), said the incident happened on July 4th.

According to Alyssa’s TikTok caption, she and her girlfriend were taking “lighthearted and funny photos” near the mall entrance when a security guard she refers to as “Hansen” approached them. She claimed he told them they would be banned and then began to curse and yell at them when they asked why they could not take pictures.

Alyssa said she was not sure whether the guard’s reaction was related to homophobia or was simply anger without a clear reason. She said another security officer later arrived and told her that Hansen had been in the wrong, and that she filed a report using the video as evidence.

Video shows officer telling women they would be banned for taking photos

In the video Alyssa posted, the security guard, wearing a yellow vest marked “SECURITY,” is seen telling her, “Just keep talking, you’re gonna get banned.” Alyssa responds, “I don’t give a f-.” The guard then replies, “Then you can leave right now if you don’t give a f-. Why is your stupid camera f-ing rolling?”

Happy 4th of July to us, where this mall security officer, “Hansen,” lit his own fuse and became more explosive than fireworks! 🧨 Grand Teton Mall encounter at the entrance. My girlfriend and I decided to take some lighthearted and funny photos, but apparently, this man didn’t seem to like it. He told us we were going to get “banned” when we were simply minding our own business and proceeded to curse and yell at us just for asking why we couldn’t take pictures at the mall. I’m not sure if it was an act of homophobia or simply just rage for no good reason. Unacceptable lash-out behavior for someone who shouldn’t have this position for a job. His backup arrived and said his officer was in the wrong, and we did file a report. A minute and 15 seconds into this video is where he crosses the line, luckily we got it on video. I wanted to share and make this public for anyone who may have encountered him – he is unsafe and dangerous; hopefully, you won’t. Stay safe, everybody! Let’s make this known, and share too. #grandtetonmall #idahofalls #security #KnowYourRights

The guard then repeats the phrase “But you do care” several times, with his voice appearing to rise each time. Alyssa responds by saying, “Obviously, that’s why it’s funny. Literally nothing else to do with security except take photos.” The guard replies, “Yeah, you’re taking video, actually. Stupid.” In another case, an NYC woman told security her Harry Styles concert tickets might be a scam.

Alyssa is heard asking “Where’s the backup?” more than once in the video, as another person appears to walk past in the background. The guard tells her, “I mean, you guys don’t have to stay here. You guys can leave.” Alyssa replies, “I know that.”

The guard’s tone appears to become more agitated as the interaction continues. He tells her, “If you guys want to stay here, you guys are just going to get banned for taking photos, for being rude and obnoxious, and not listening to what I’m telling you. I’m telling you, I’m telling you not to do it, and you guys are undermining everything I’m saying. I’m telling you not to do it. I’m telling you not to do it!”

As he says his final words, the guard appears to shout and reach toward Alyssa’s camera, based on the footage. The camera shakes, and Alyssa can be heard saying, “Oh no, no, no, no, no. Oh, oh, f- no. Oh, hell no. Are you touching my camera? Hell no.” The video ends shortly after, with the guard’s hand appearing to make contact with either the camera and Alyssa’s arm. A similar dispute happened when a kiosk worker at the mall asked a shopper if she wanted to tip.

Alyssa said in her caption that the moment the guard crossed a line happens about a minute and 15 seconds into the video. She said she and her girlfriend had to physically hold him back to keep him from breaking her camera, though this portion is not shown in the clip she posted.

According to Alyssa, a second security officer arrived after the incident and told her that Hansen had acted inappropriately. She said she was allowed to file a report and provided the video as evidence. Alyssa described the guard as “unsafe and dangerous” in her caption and said she wanted to warn others who might encounter him.

In her TikTok caption, Alyssa wrote that the confrontation began after she and her girlfriend were “simply minding our own business” near the mall entrance. She said the guard’s behavior was not appropriate for someone in his position.

Commenters on the video expressed a range of reactions. Some, including someone who said they live in Idaho Falls, urged Alyssa to file a police report for safety reasons. Others questioned the guard’s conduct directly, with one writing, “Sir… you are mall security. Calm down.” Another commenter cautioned against forming conclusions without more context, writing that the video may not show the full interaction and questioning why the clip began where it did.

Grand Teton Mall has not publicly responded to the claims made in Alyssa’s video as of this writing. The identity of the security guard referred to as “Hansen” has not been confirmed, and it is not clear whether he faced any formal consequences beyond the report Alyssa said she filed.
