Paraguay senator posts unhinged racist rant against French Football player Mbappé. Then she demands an apology from him

Kylian Mbappé responded to the hate-filled rant, but the Paraguayan senator doubled down.

The World Cup has not been without its ups and downs, but so far the rivalry between countries has been kept on the pitch. However, a particularly savage match between France and Paraguay saw an angry Paraguayan senator launch a vicious, hate-filled rant against French team captain, Kylian Mbappé.

Celeste Amarilla typed out a despicable rant on X against Mbappé following France’s 1-0 win against Paraguay on Saturday, calling the French player a “colonised Cameroonian, desperately trying to pass himself off as French.” She threw in a few more uncalled for insults, claiming that he was also a “brute who had not learned to write,” adding that Paraguayan players should have slapped him after the match, reports The Guardian.

Mbappé’s response

Despite the despicable rant shared by the Paraguayan senator Mbappé refrained from throwing similar insults her way. “Madame Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honour throughout the competition,” he wrote in his response on X.

He went on to say that Amarilla’s “brazen racism” had overshadowed the “historic effort” of the Paraguayan players and that Celeste was an “incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country.” His response was met with mixed reactions with one user accusing the French team of “mocking our players,” during the game. However, plenty of others praised the footballer for calling out the senator’s comments.

Celeste Amarilla demands an apology

Following Mbappé’s response, the Paraguayan senator didn’t so much back down as she did double down. She listed a number of instances in which she believed Mbappé had disrespected the Paraguayan team as per Marca.com.

Later into her statement she admitted that she “regretted” the insults she had used against Mbappé, on account of her experiencing racism herself. She claimed the post was made while her blood was boiling and that she had since deleted it demanding that the French captain also retract his statements and apologize to her.

Amarilla took issue with Mbappé calling her “unworthy,” and “despicable,” stating that the insults equated to “political violence against a woman who got where she is through the popular vote.” She accused Mbappé of insulting her because of her gender and denied insulting his race, demanding he retract his words and apologize, threatening legal action if he refused to do so.

Of course, this is the internet, and the internet doesn’t forget nor forgive racism easily. People on X didn’t take kindly to the Senator’s long statement, “You openly wrote the craziest, most racist vile s— to Mbappe and now playing victim because he called you “a despicable woman,” reads one X comment. Others responded with similar retorts to Amarilla, accusing her of being racist and then deflecting by accusing Mbappé of being sexist.
