A cop in Houston, Texas, has been suspended after posting a racist rant containing slurs. Ashley Gonzalez went viral with her shocking video which promptly saw her lose her job as a police officer.
Gonzalez posted her racially charged rant to her Instagram “close friends” story, likely thinking that nobody else would ever see the offensive video. Unfortunately for her, one of her friends recorded the clip and shared it for all to see the type of person she really is.
In the video she can be heard repeatedly using the N-word to describe black people as well as comparing them to “chimps.” The rant, which goes on for quite a long time, starts with Gonzalez stating, “I f—ing hate (racial slur).” She then went on to share the story of a supposed encounter she had while off duty in which a man attempted to steal her wallet. She mocked slavery as well during her tirade.
Another clip which was shared on Facebook and features more from later in the video shows her threatening to arrest any black person that is on a call she’s dispatched to, “let me get a f—ing black person on a 911 call tomorrow especially, you’re going to f—ing jail.”
Ashley Gonzalez faces consequences
Of course, showing her true racist colors has not gone well for the former police officer and as soon as the clip went public Gonzalez was promptly suspended pending an internal investigation according to an article from the New York Post. Gonzalez served in the marine corps from 2019 to 2023 and was sworn in to her police department in 2024.
In a statement the Houston Police Department condemned her racist rant.
“The Houston Police Officers Union is extremely disturbed by a video circulating on social media regarding an officer making offensive, racist comments. In no way does the HPOU or its leadership condone or tolerate racist behavior from any of our officers.”
On X people questioned how she even got hired in the first place, “How does someone who talks like this manage to successfully navigate the police application process?” asked one person. Another stated that “Every ONE of her arrests, need to be reviewed!”
Ashley Gonzalez will remain employed at the Houston Police Department until a final ruling is made but considering the video evidence against her it’s hard to imagine she’ll get out of this situation without at least some form of punishment. It’s possible that she may be reinstated but she also faces the possibility of being fired with no possibility of being rehired.
Following the viral video leaking she was told to hand in her badge and gun. She will also be checked on at her home while the investigation continues.
