There’s a reason people call a wedding a “special day”. When you’re tying the knot with the love of your life, surrounded by friends and family, you want everything to be perfect. That’s especially the case for the bride, who’s the center of attention and must look her absolute best.
So, as TikToker @spiceoflifevlogs reports, it’s a big deal if you suspect that your dream wedding dress has already been worn by another bride in secret. As this is a TikTok video, it is the poster’s own account of events and should not be treated as verified fact, but she claims that she picked a well-regarded bridal boutique with “thousands of five star reviews” and, initially, “everything seemed amazing”.
After trying on five dresses, she fell in love:
“It was, like, the fifth one I tried on. I kept coming back to it. I was like, this dress is beautiful.
It is perfect. It was a little bit on the pricier side, so it, you know, it had to be custom made and then sent into the store.”
“Who’s been putting this on?”
So far so good. Then she was told that there’d have to be a few rounds of alterations to get it to fit. The first round comes up, and all seemed well. “They’re pinning it, and they’re like, oh, you know, this looks perfect. I don’t think it’s gonna take too much work.”
Then came the further fittings, and she became confused that, despite her not putting on any weight, the dress kept changing. Even more suspiciously, the dress seemed like it had been altered to fit someone else.
Then, on a later appointment, her mom noticed a proverbial smoking gun. Her mom spotted makeup on the dress, which didn’t make sense as she’d been told not to wear any during the fitting:
“There are makeup stains all along the inside of the bus line and all inside of the dress. There’s dirt on the train of my dress. My very, very expensive, very expensive dress. So I’m like, who’s been putting this on?”
She quizzed the employees, who said they didn’t know what she was talking about, and argued that any makeup on the dress must have been hers. The final appointment arrived and, while the dress now fitted nicely, she noticed that the seams were crooked. And the makeup stains? There were more. She was furious:
“I had to prepay. My dress is ruined. They did not get the makeup stains out. There’s actually now more makeup stains. There is bright red lipstick on the inside of the dress. Now there’s bright red lipstick on the outside of the dress, on the bottom of it. I don’t even know how that got there. So I am going ballistic. I am like, this is unprofessional. You have stolen my money. You have not delivered on the terms of our contract.”
She eventually claims to have figured out what happened, saying that she noticed on social media that the boutique had exhibited at a bridal expo, and she identified her dress in the images they posted being worn by a model. Almost as infuriating is a tale of a bride with disabilities who tried to make sure her venue was accessible, only for her plans to be allegedly “sabotaged”.
Now she’s vowing to take them to court, saying:
“I don’t know if they thought I was just gonna be like too dumb to not put two and two together, but I have screenshots and screen recordings of all of those details and they will be featured at court because yeah, I’m turning this into a legal issue cause they’re refusing to give me any sort of refund for any of it after I spent so much money.”
The comments are near-universal in saying they’re glad she’s taking them to court. They point out “if you’ve got a contract, you’ve got a lawsuit”, point out that the dress has been her property from the moment she paid for it up-front, and even recommended that she do a chargeback from her credit card. The boutique itself was not named and has not commented on her allegations.
But perhaps it could have been worse. After all, a bride in Georgia had an outdoor wedding and was horrified to discover her dress had become infested with ants. And then they started biting her…
