Arizona woman tries to exit Walmart, but then employees block the door: ‘I’m getting held hostage in Walmart’

"Singled out, disrespected, and humiliated."

A video of a confrontation at a Phoenix, Arizona Walmart has been circulating on TikTok, showing a customer and auto center employees in a dispute over which door she was allowed to use to leave the store. The customer, who goes by RealTalkWithT on TikTok under the handle @luvelypinkisses816, said she was stopped when she tried to walk out through the auto center after finishing her shopping.

According to the creator, who apparently goes by the name T, said she had paid for her items at the auto center and then asked an employee to unlock the door so she could leave that way. The employee, along with a second worker who appeared to be from loss prevention, allegedly told her she was not allowed to exit through that door and asked to see her receipt before she could go.

In the video, T can be heard saying, “I’m getting held hostage in Walmart.” The on-screen text in her TikTok video reads, “This is the racism I experience daily in AZ! the fatigue is so real!” T said the incident left her feeling “singled out, disrespected, and humiliated.”

Walmart auto center worker cited store policy, but the confrontation escalated when T attempted to leave through a third employee’s exit

In the footage, a male auto center employee identified on screen as Leo can be seen standing in front of the locked door while speaking to T. He told her, “The exit’s at the front of the store,” and explained, “You don’t have a car in service here. Our policy is just to let customers out here that have us.”

Went to Walmart parked at the auto door because i wanted to grab a few things in the dept. When I tried to leave, the door was locked, I asked to be let out and an employee stood in my way while demanding a receipt. Stating I wasn’t allowed to leave through that exit🙄 I’m so tired of these racist losers in Az! I felt singled out, disrespected, and humiliated. #Walmart #racist

T pushed back, saying, “I don’t have to leave at the front. You can leave at any door in Walmart. Yes, you can. I come through this door all the time and I leave through this door.” She continued to demand to be let out, telling the employees, “I want to be let out the door. This is, this is considered holding me hostage.” The male employee is seen maintaining that the auto center exit was restricted to customers who had a vehicle being serviced there, and that the front of the store was the correct exit for all other shoppers.

The situation escalated when a third employee came in through the auto center door from outside. According to T, she used that moment to try to walk out through the same door. Text overlaid on the video states, “AN EMPLOYEE WALKED IN THE DOOR SO I TRIED TO WALK OUT! THEY ATTEMPTED TO GRAB ME + BLOCK ME FROM WALKING OUT!” Walmart locations have seen other heated confrontations between staff and customers in recent months.

In the video, T can be heard yelling, “Hey, don’t hold me hostage! Stop! Get your hands off me!” as the camera appears to shake and point toward the floor near the door. The male employee is seen moving in front of her, allegedly in an attempt to block her from exiting. The video ends at this point.

It is not clear from the available footage whether the employee made physical contact with T or only moved to block her path. Walmart has not publicly commented on the incident, and it is unclear whether any formal complaint was filed following the confrontation. In a separate Walmart incident, security footage revealed what allegedly happened when an elderly Florida man was reportedly unable to redeem a lottery ticket he had claimed at the store.

Viewers who commented on T’s TikTok video were divided over who was in the right. Some sided with the employees, with one commenter writing, “You are on Walmart property. If they ask you to leave through the front, leave through the front.” Another commenter suggested the auto center restriction may have a practical basis, writing, “Walmart’s safety rules. Auto bays are usually restricted areas because of moving vehicles, equipment, and safety hazards.”

Others were more sympathetic to T, with one viewer advising her, “Why don’t you make a complaint with the attorney general’s office?” Another simply wrote, “Always two sides to every story,” while one commenter appeared to acknowledge the emotional weight of T’s experience, writing, “The fatigue is exhausting.”

T did not indicate in her post whether she plans to take any formal action against Walmart or its employees. No official statement from the store or Walmart corporate has been reported at the time of publication.
