A series of TikTok videos posted by creator Aly, who goes by the handle @alyrosemakeup, appears to show a situation that unfolded during a makeup appointment at an Arizona Sephora Beauty Studio. In the video, which is presented as a skit or dramatized retelling, Aly finds herself stuck in the middle of a couple’s relationship trouble after a boyfriend secretly books a makeup appointment as part of a proposal plan.
The video was posted in two parts and has drawn attention for the uncomfortable position the makeup artist character finds herself in. The story begins in the first video when a man visits Sephora and books a 4:00 PM Friday appointment for his girlfriend, Megan, asking Aly not to say a word about the proposal he is planning for that night.
When Friday arrived, and Megan showed up for her appointment, Aly said she received a phone call mid-session. According to the video, Megan answers and says to the person on the other end, “I can’t stand this man. I swear to God, if he’s proposing tonight, I’m gonna be really p****d off.”
The moment the makeup artist got pulled into the middle of the couple’s argument
She also reportedly says she should have broken up with him weeks ago and that he knows she only wants to be proposed to in Europe. She allegedly calls him a “weirdo” for booking her a Sephora appointment instead of a private makeup artist.
After the call ended, Aly said she hesitantly asked if everything was all right. According to the video, Megan then directly asks her, “Did he tell you anything about tonight when he booked this appointment?” The makeup artist says no, but Megan pushes back, saying, “You’re lying. Huh? I can see it on your face. You’re lying, so just tell me.”
Part one of the video ends there, with a text overlay saying part two was coming the next day. Sephora employees have previously gone viral for noticing unusual customer shopping patterns at their stores.
In part two, Megan decides to call her boyfriend directly, putting the phone on speaker during the appointment. She allegedly tells him, “Are you proposing? Because the makeup artist told me that you’re proposing.” According to the video, the makeup artist immediately whispers, “No, no, no, no, no, I didn’t say a word,” as she had not actually confirmed anything, Megan had made the claim herself.
The boyfriend, apparently caught off guard, reportedly responds, “What? She told you?” which, according to the video, inadvertently confirmed the proposal on its own. The conversation then apparently turned into an argument, with Megan telling him, “You know that I only wanted to get proposed to in Italy.”
The boyfriend allegedly replies that Italy is not possible right now, and at some point during the call, tells her to “relax for like once” and says she is “never grateful for anything.” Aly said Megan pushed back and claimed she is “super grateful,” pointing to the fact that she puts “mints on your pillow every morning” as an example. Aly said the boyfriend asked her to finish the appointment so they could speak in person, and the call ended.
After hanging up, Aly said Megan turns to her and says, “Good going, you blew my chances of finding out what’s happening tonight,” before asking her to finish the makeup quietly. Public proposals do not always go as planned, as one man learned after his girlfriend’s reaction at Fenway Park left the crowd stunned.
Once the makeup is done, Megan allegedly asks if the appointment has been paid for. The makeup artist says no and asks whether the boyfriend is on his way to the salon. Aly said that Megan says she does not know, tells her to call him herself, and then walks out without paying. The makeup artist is seen in the video calling after her, saying, “Wait a minute, ma’am, you can’t just walk out without paying,” but Megan had already left.
The video ends with another Sephora employee apparently asking the makeup artist if she just watched her client leave without paying. The makeup artist, according to the clip, replies, “Yeah, so either they’re really good actors and I just got completely played, or her boyfriend is in for a really rough night tonight. You know, I’m gonna take lunch.”
The two-part video was posted on TikTok by @alyrosemakeup with the caption on part two reading, “Good luck, babe.” It’s unclear whether the skit is based on a real incident or is entirely scripted.
Viewers in the comments appeared divided in their reactions. “HELP THE PHONE CALL!?! She Is WRONG,” wrote a user. Another commented, “The way I gasped when she got the call. ‘he’s not thoughtful enough??!!’ girl he booked a makeup session for you!” Another user took a different tone, writing, “May this type of ‘love’ NEVER find me.”
