Amber | The Active Edit (@ambergerss) shared a TikTok documenting a date that involved jogging through wooded trails.
Throughout the video, Amber shows herself struggling to keep pace with her date, who runs well ahead of her. Text overlays explain that she felt embarrassed about asking him to slow down and that he repeatedly left her behind on the trail. According to the on-screen captions, the pair stopped about a mile into the run.
The clip then shows the man turning toward Amber and saying, “This is where I was gonna kill you.” After Amber laughed, he noticed she had been recording and asked, “Omg did you record that,” before adding, “I was just kidding,” according to the video.

Amber appeared to treat the interaction as a joke rather than a warning sign, though many viewers disagreed. Her video ended with a text overlay reading, “idk I kind of wanna see him again.” As concern spread through the comments, Amber also updated the video’s caption with an edit that read: “I’m ok yall he was just joking, lighten up.”
Many viewers, however, did not find the exchange amusing. One commenter wrote, “He took you to a location that you don’t know, showed that he can outlast you while running AND threatened to kill you? You need to get pepper gel spray and make a police report. He’s making a plan to get you.”
Meanwhile, another commenter added, “Notice how he said he was joking when you was aware you were recording.” Another added, “He was trying to Alpine divorce you. He wasn’t joking.”
The phrase “alpine divorce” has recently gained traction on TikTok after videos discussing partners abandoning dates or significant others during hikes or other outdoor activities. Comments like these reflect a broader concern that jokes about violence, especially from a near-stranger in an isolated setting, can be a genuine warning sign rather than harmless humor.
Despite the flood of warnings, Amber maintained that viewers had misread the situation and that the comment was only a joke. Whether or not that’s the case, the reaction reflects how seriously many people take offhand jokes about violence, particularly from someone a person doesn’t know well.
