Woman’s jaws drop after finding out people are paying $175 for a rock. Then she checks the medium sized ones and can’t believe what she’s looking at

Buying decorative landscape boulders for outdoor home improvement has never been cheap, but one shopper’s viral video is drawing attention to landscaping prices after she filmed decorative boulders selling for hundreds of dollars.

According to a TikTok video posted by user @irishqueen83, the creator films decorative boulders displayed at a landscaping yard while questioning the listed prices. The clip has prompted discussion online and echoes other recent viral shopping stories, including one Walmart shopper who highlighted how much grocery prices had increased over the past few years.

The woman points to the listed price of a “Small Irregular Boulder,” which retails for $175. Reacting to the display, she asks, “Who’s actually paying $175 for a… rock?” The video then pans to a larger option, revealing a “Medium Irregular Boulder” listed for $229. “Oh, it gets better,” she says before adding that the larger stone costs $229. Zooming in on the gray boulder, she remarks, “Nothing special, no… gold in it, it’s just a rock.”

The listed prices became the center of the discussion

Landscaping yards have to account for sourcing, transportation, heavy equipment, and labor when pricing large decorative stones. Even so, many commenters said the rocks looked no different from those they might find elsewhere.

Commenters joined the discussion with a mix of criticism and humor. While some questioned whether the listed prices were justified, others made light of the situation. One of the most-liked comments read, “THOSE AREN’T ROCKS! They are Irregular Boulders!” Another user joked, “Never buy designer rocks. The off-brands are just as good,” while a third added, “Rocks don’t grow on trees.”

Similar frustrations have surfaced in other viral shopping stories, including one shopper who claimed berries at Wegmans rang up at more than double the advertised sale price. 

Whether viewers considered the prices reasonable given the costs of sourcing and transporting heavy stone or simply viewed them as another example of sticker shock, the video generated plenty of discussion about the cost of landscaping materials.
